Hi just looking for advise on a problem with a freelander Td4, pre 2003. It has a distinct lose of power going up hills(seen as we live in the lake district there are a lot of them:confused:.) and I am having to change down through all the gears. There is no black smoke coming out of the exhaust, we recently had the intercooler hose renewed. Has anyone any ideas please.

Welcome to the club.

I have the same issue. Mine is a 2001 TD4 auto that labours when going up hils. Have to make it kick down.

It also kicks down is you give it any amount of throttle at about 60 mph, there just no power in top gear.

Some time it kicks down cos there no power, then kicks down again.

I have changed fuel pump at the front and filter, and the crank case breather filer, air filter. MAF has been checked by stealers who say that its OK. No change so far.

Think that I will try the turbo control vacuum value next (see sticky about power loss abouve 70 mph)

@ Matt_TD4 - Where does the MAP sensor live? I know there a boost pressure sensor on the bottom left (front the front of the car) corner of the intake manifold.

Thanks

Right, I disconnected the turbi vacuum pipe yesterday.

Whilst connected, car seems ok up to top end but id lacking top end power.

Whilst disconnected : Lack of power through the rev range upto the top end, where the power does not appear to be improved.

I guess that this indicates that the turbo solenoid is at least partially working ok.

Map sensor next then......
