I don't know what diagnostic tool you have ordered, most will not work on Range Rovers, the only low cost one that does work is AllComms.

hi what ive bought obd1/2 for landrover and other makes obd/eobd/obd11/ elm327 interface cable / software for laptop bought of e bay for £40 they state that it works on any landrover with obd / obd11 conections after 98 if it dont work they will be getting it back they seem to have a good rep lots sold fingers crossed sheilds landrover tech told me to do a hard reset to clear bcu going to wait till rain goes off before i try that will let you know the outcome ( trying hard not to loose the faith )

Might do the engine, doubt it will do anything else.

they are stating diagnostic on central locking probs as well as lots of others cant find all comms where can i buy ? if this dont work

a few cheap tools will diagnose or give a fault code, its the clearing of the fault that's the key which is what the all comms will do mostly. it also gives more information that just a short code.

there were some all comms copies on ebay but i think they have mostly been removed and the software is now a registered download with a key rather than just free issue.

i have had several issues that have cured themselves and i think water ingress can be an issue on some ECU's giving weird results.

all my dashboard display lights and warning sounds disappeared once, no indicators noise or green lights and couldn't find a fault no matter what i did so as a last resort i took out the cluster and checked all the connections which were fine and it started working again.

which cluster did you remove ? i did a hard reset with no joy although it cleared engine management light everthing was ok till i jump started her no interior lights apart from map lights and rear light which i can activate manually key will work on boot whilst trying key reset drivers chair reset itself

The Instrument cluster..>!!!

Never ever jump start a Range Rover unless it is a dire emergency...and even then follow the procedure in the handbook to the letter...never deviate, the Range Rover in all flavours is a complex diva and they absolutly hate being jumped, or boosted....

As for diagnostics, only a LR specific device will talk with all the vehicle subsystems....a generic scannerwill talk with the engine as it has to by law/regulation but all the other systems use LR's own protocols!

I am pleased to say that my new buy the RSW Allcomms III has fixed every single fault on my car, and it now drives great, best £170 I have ever spent.

That is
Suspension
Electric window
Parking sensor
loads of niggly faults electrically, door locks
I have advanced calibrated the suspension
checked transfer box and gear box have no faults.
I went through every item on the RSW list and there is not 1 fault recorded.

How long for I have no idea but fair play to Storey what a bit of kit, you would be daft not to get one.

yes that one but i wouldnt suggest that will cure your fault just an example of how fickle all those computers can be. my car has this odd and very frustrating thing of needing the engine and immobiliser to be re - pared if i disconnect my battery which is a main dealer job and it wont start without it. that started after i disconnected the battery a few times and must have spiked it.

i have found in my 5 months of ownership the frustration level and outlay is dropping and my pleasure from owning and driving is increasing, i think thats what they call inversely proportional...

anyway, the longer you own it the more you will get to know it, its like buying a rescue dog when you dont really know its history, you just have to work through the various issues until it gets to know you, mine was obviously bummed by its owner before i got it....:D

your allcomms is the key, until that arrives you are weeing in the wind....

This is why whenever I refer to Storey Wilson it is always accompanied with 'The Legend that is...'

He has selflessly given up his time to develop this tool for us home DIY'ers and yes he makes a bit of pocket money out of it, but he didn't have to give up his time for us....

So thank you to the the legend that is Storey Wilson.

hi folks spenk a couple of hours with local auto elec managed to get into transport mode cancelled it a few times susp went up and down no probs cancelled all stored faults but still no joy with central locking interior lights etc did not have all comms has anyone in west of scotland got one mabe for sale even is all comms the only one that works ?

There are a few Diagnostics devices available at varying costs...

The All Comms is the cheapest but also it is more capable than the Bearmach Hawkeye...

There is:

Omnitec/Britpart Lynx
All Comms
Bearmach Hawkeye
Gap Diagnostics IIDTool
Snapon Solus
Faultmate Extreme
Autologic
Testbook

are the most common and popular....and all vary in price - the Faultmate is the best home user solution but pricey at £1000

The Testbook and Autologic are more garage based and for the Testbook needs a telephone number sized bank balance

The Snapon solus can be pricey, but can do other vehicles as well

The Hawkeye has limitations, but can read live data

The IIDTool is pocket sized, doesn't require any external laptop or such like, but if your message centre pixals are fecked it is useless

The All Comms is a very capable piece of kit and is enough for the home DIY'er - although it doesn't have live data capture!

I thought the latest update had added some live data? Not sure as I dont have one.

Only on Air Suspension Height Readings....(which I have yet to get to function correctly)

As far as I can see there are no Engine Data live readings on my version 2 (will check at lunch time if I get the time)

I use a generic OBD software (either EasyOBD or Scantool) to get live readings of Air Flow, Fueling, Lambda Readings, Torque, Accelerator position etc....

Hi ,
I use an elm 323 with scantool for the engine live data (2003 Td6).

BMW scanner 1.4 that will read/clear about every other ecu , display some live data and allow some re coding.

and a reslers can bus interface that i use to recode the tv/nav phone light module and radio.

All comms is a good unit and the real useful function is the control over the air suspension ecu that storey really shines at but as a cheap alternative the bmw scanner 1.4 has some good functions. ebay no 150999685269 £20 from china and got it in a week!
