Hi guys, 2004 TD6, where is the place these are most prone to rot on the subframes ( front & rear) ? Also any links/info on removal? Cheers, Andy

I'm sure it's normally case by case, Here where I live we don't suffer rust issues as such caused by salty roads, But more so the rear subframe are common to rust here as they are often used as boat tow cars.

To remove the rear subframe for instance is a major job, To replace the bushes in the subframe again is another undertaking and you need a special workshop press to do this, I Beleive the rear subframe alone is about 1-2 days labour.

Perhaps if the rust is just surface you may be able to use 'killrust' spray and a bit of zinc paint?

Just replaced both front and rear subframes on my 2002 L322. The rear was rusted through nr the front mount supports. the front had corrosion on the rear legs. Removing the rear was not that hard. came out complete. disconnected propshaft. removed exhaust. handbrake cables disconnected from inside. height sensor wires disconnected. air bag pipes disconnected from under Far side rear wheel arch. lowered on trolley jack. then the hard bit of changing all the bushes. front required both driveshafts removing. Took me ages. would cost a fortune in garage. Cost £800 all in for replacement subframes. new bushes all round. drop links. camber bolts. brake cables and new ABS wires.
