Since I can't upgrade my 4.4HSE's radio/CD unit with the Vogue's TV/SATNAV unit, I am thinking about fitting an OEM double DIN touch screen unit in its place.

I know nothing is easy with a Range Rover, but should I be aware of any show-stoppers?

Cheers!

Yeah, it wont work!

The actual radio and amp is in the boot and that is where your DIN radio plugs are, the unit in the dash is simply an LCD display with a CD player mounted on top of it.

To fit a double DIN head unit will require major surgery to the dash as its not a double DIN hole and some serious wiring alterations.

Personally, I'd forget it!

Hi range rover v8,

It is not financially viable to fit the Range Rover satnav/tv system to an HSE.

I was thinking about fitting a double DIN Kenwood or similar touch screen unit in the dashboard but, as clutchdust says, this also appears to be more trouble than it's worth.

I know i thought of both of them ideas too but ive installed 7" screens in sunvisors and headrests instead so got 4 screens to watch now thats another option for you if you want screens.

Ive also added a subwoofer to the existing amp system as it lacks that bit of bass not too much boy racer style though ha ha

Im thinking that if the ISO connectors are in the back with the actual radio unit, I might be able to extend these to the dashboard and fit a touch screen head unit with satnav.

Sounds like a project for the long dark nights!

Yes definatly a winter night project.

I want away from the idea of changing the headunit when i had to removed half of dash just to get cd changer out of glove box so could put tv tuner and dvd player there instead!! Dont fancy trying to get that headunit out!!

head unit not too bad to get out, both ends of the dash off (upper parts with the vents in) then remove the center speaker grille followed by the speaker and 2 screws next to it, then remove all the big torx bolts on top, pull the dash top towards you then lift out, you can then get to the head unit which is held in by 4 torx screws.

yeah, your right about the cd changer, its a right ball ache to get out!

aftermarket head replacement possible, i am doing it right now to my 2004 HSE, got info from

Dont be shy and go for it, I got plug adaptors off ebay (UK to Aus) not a drama but it is quite a bit of work, got some challenges on DVBT reception etc but will crack it eventually, next spot to check is radio amp in the back (its still in the circuit and active)

It feels good to get it in and have more fruit on a HSE than what you get on a standard Vouge, also analouge TV is turning off in Aus so DVBT was logical.

Also got ipod, USB, SD etc etc connections so its now very up to date.

I've seen Powerful UK video on Youtube for removing the standard Radio/CD from the L322, as per above description. This doesnt appear to be the same process for the SatNav Screen version. I have followed the same procedure but the unit wont want to slide out. It feels like there may be two more screws or something holding it in place in the lower part of the dash. I cant see what may be preventing it from coming out... dont want to snap anything but it seems the lower centre vents or lower dash needs to come out too. Does anyone know if this is the case or if there are lower torx screws holding the unit in on the sat nav version which appear not to be on the standard unit?

Pleeease help
