Hi
I've a 2002 L322 TD6 and recently experienced the "Air suspension inactive" message on the dash. The suspension was frozen in the "normal" mid position and the inhibit switch was illuminated indicating the fault.

My dealer has reset it twice (worked ok for around a day each time) and on the thrid time suggested a new compressor. I've just replaced the compressor with a brand new genuine part.

However, i still receive the "air susp inactive" message on the dashboard, still frozen in the mid position but I now have no illumination on the suspension level control. Nothing illuminated on the inhibit switch and nothing on the visual level indicator.

Does the fault need to be cleared by Testbook prior to the new compressor kicking into action - I was under the impression that a new compressor could be simply plugged in to cure the fault.

Any help or thoughts gratefully received before I pay more money to the dealer!

Many thanks

Hi,
Yes the system must be reset before the new pump will function. When the dealer reset the fault previously they should have given you a list of the faults found. A common fault on this model is the failure of the pressure release valve MAV 500010. When it fails it will vent system pressure to atmosphere giving the indication that the pump is knackered. The pressure release valve can be removed as I am given to understand it was only fitted as a safety device during vehicle build in the event the system was piped incorrectly. When you unplugged the electrical harness to fit the new pump you will have noticed a spare 6mm push fit elbow fitting pressed into the electrical connector block this can be removed and fitted in place of the PRV. The PRV is of Norgren manufacture and consists of a chrome plated Tee with what looks like a brass bottle fitted on one end.
There is now an EAS reset device for the L322 supplied by RSW Solutions, I've got one on order and will let people now how it performs once received. They have a very good website which explains the many faults which can affect the suspension on these cars.

I have included the link for your information http://www.rswsolutions.com/

Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks Spitfire!

A dealer re-set did the trick and the EAS is back to normal. Thanks for the advice re the PRV - I'll keep that in mind.

Cheers

Ian.

Hi landyian

Did you buy the reset/fault reader? If so what do you think - is it worth having?

Hi Spitfire

How did the tool perform?

Hi, Apologies to all for not reporting back. The EAS reset tool is a great piece of kit. Just plug it in and it resets the eas, then plug it into the PC and you can download the faults found in notebook format and print them off. Mine only plays up when it's parked on very uneven ground but is it reassuring to know that it is in the glovebox should it let me down. It's paid for itself many times over. Cheers Ian

Hi there, I've got the Norgren PRV present in my vehicle and was wondering on what are the proper steps to remove it?

How do I disconnect the hoses that are connected to the valve on both ends?

Thanks!

Hi, Removal of the prv is very simple but make sure the ignition is off. On the ends of the chrome fitting you will see a chrome ring. This is known as a collet and is designed to grip the plastic pipe preventing it from pulling out. To remove the pipe, push the head of the collet in, whilst gently pulling the pipe out, it can be a little hard on your fingers and there may be a blast of air as the pipe comes out but dont worry it will stop almost instantly. Remove both ends and dispose of the prv, the elbow fitting will do the same job without leaking. Best to lightly lubricate the pipe ends with a silicon based grease or vaseline before pushing in as there is an O ring in the bottom of the fitting to seal the outside diameter of the pipe... simples
