Hello All,
Ive recently purchased a 2006 Vogue and am loving it. Only issue I have is I bought it knowing that there was a vibration under braking. Had a garage take a look and they advised that the front left was clearly overheating, they could tell by the disc colour. The discs, pads and calipers have only done about 1k and look ok. Had the brake hose changed, but still has same issue. Its ok to start with but when the brakes are warmed up I can hear a knocking from the brake area in line with the speed. The garage have advised the next option would be to change the abs pump/control unit. Quite expensive, so I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this please? Theres no warning lights on, could it be an unlucky newish warped disc, or is this a known fault with the abs pump? Also Ive noticed the handbrake doesn't seem to hold anything, could that be an issue?
Any advice most appreciated, and many thanks.
 
You need to make sure the garage you go to has diag that will talk to a Range rover as not all stuff will or it tells the wrong faults.
 
Yes the garage have done that thanks kermit. They said it was all fine and that it could be the brake hose, if not the abs pump. Went for the hose first as the cheaper option, but no joy so looks like it'll be the abs pump next. It was the juddering that made me think of a possibly warped disc, but all discs, calipers and pads were done at the start of the year by the previous owner, and only done about 1k.
 
Possible wheelbearing bit of play and binding on almost new stuff,
Have you changed the disc or checked its still true?
if its funny colours it may be warped or have a heaps of deposits bedding on the disc from being really hot and the pad sitting on one spot when you've parked up that usually causes a judder on a few normal braking conditions,

You do say you've had the brake hose changed so an internal delamination of the pipe would be ruled out,

If its single piston callipars bmw era and speaking from bmw experience and on my own 2003 range rover with the bmw electronics and brakes here on,

Brake sticking on when warm could still be down too callipar,
If the bleed nipple cracks off then pop the piston out and give it clean it up with some lube and fine sandpaper and clean up all the sliders, pop piston back in and bleed it up,
Also old and weak retaining clips can cause slight forward and backward rocking moment of the callipar

Re abs faults seem too either present as a trio of lights as a dead sensor,
An erratic sensor that passes the initial power on self test usually highlights as trying too apply the brake itself and abs noises as pulling away or while breaking you get the abs pedal pump come and go under light breaking,
A quick way would be too unpulg the front left abs sensor and drive it
It will flash up abs and suspension inactive faults,

Reconnect sensor and do the steering full left and full right then straight too active the steering angle sensor and air suspension again abs lights will still be on at this time but drive upto 15mph and it will clear again and be normal again,
 
Handbrake doing nothing could be down too adjustment or failure of the shoes or backing plates and pins of the drum inside a disc set up of the rear brakes,

Or the Handbrake cables themselves or the self adjustable mechanism on the handbrake lever,
