right a couple of weeks ago i serviced my td5 defender that i just bought. every nut i had to undo was rounded off. sump plug had been done up that tight i had to weld one of my sockets to it to get it off. centrifugal filter housing both bolts rounded.

then today i replaced my starter motor and there was no top nut on the bloody stud... im seriously not happy why are garages like this allowed to run.

im trying to find out where the last owner got it serviced and repaired so i can worn people.

not happy

How do you know it was a garage that has done the bad deeds, could it not have been done by the previous owner who thought he could fix his motor cos it's a Land Rover, and any fool can fix a Land Rovers, right. ;)

truueee. i phoned him earlier and said where did you get it serviced. and he just mumbled out some name that i couldnt find on internet. he probally knew i would of given him an earfull if he said he done it

Sounds like a farmer owned it. bodging titefisted basteeds that they are..

Mines same. they have a policy of "if it works it don't need owt doing" "If it dun't work it needs fixing for nothing" If it can't be fixed for nothing give the job to the cheapest bloke around"

I have four farmers on my books and their vehicles range from a 63 series to a 55 Defender, Renault Laguna to BMW, and several other bits and bobs in between, and they are by far my best customers, they all pay on the day and I've never had a single complaint. ;)

Hmm I don't think we're all that bad, then again I wouldn't want to buy a Landrover off any other farmer I know. :)

Thanks for the vote of confidence Rob, sure its welcome in the farming world :)
I always pay on the nail for evarything, so easy and eficient, saves on reams of paperwork, stamps, accounts, blah, blah! I just give em a cheque when they deliver.
Been delivering cattle round farms an small holdings for years, just take an unguaranteed cheque, sometimes thousands of pounds. Iff peeps aint there I have just put the beasts in the field and they sent the cheque. Never been a problem at all :)

One of my customers recently changed his car for a Discovery 300Tdi and called to show me his new motor, you'll not be getting anymore work from me he said cos I'll be doing all my own now. We chatted for a while and he kept rubbing in the fact that anyone can fix a Land Rover.
So far I've done the swivel seals, starter motor, drivers door latch and serpentine belt, he's just too busy to do the work himself apparently.

A good community works on trust. One of my farmer customers just drops his cheque book on the table and says, "you'll fill it in for us won't you" the cheque is already signed.:cool:

Theyre not exactly difficult to work on, just a matter of ggetting to Know the little wrinkles and techniques that make life easy.
I would enjoy all those jobs except the door latch, hate doors, trim , dashboards etc.
Jobs that nearly made me weep 30 years ago are a joy now :D
Strange how some peeps cant admit they dont know, the signs are there for the experienced to see ;)
