Anyone ever try'd these tyres for on road or off road use. Some fairly aggressive off road only tyres from what i've seen!!

Im after a 50/50 or decent occasional off road tyre as don't want a bit of wet grass, a muddy field or spot of sleet/snow to flummax a 4x4!!
Seen these as this is what most pajeros seem to wear or pickup trucks that occasionally get dirty http://www.4x4tyres.com/20580r16-kingpin-mud-tracker-4x4-retread--tyre-110108l

Any other recommendations that have a fairly long life being used on road are welcome, thanks:)

:search: is your friend:rolleyes: I know 'cause I asked a few months ago. Some have trouble balancing as far as I know. In the end I waited & managed to get a set of Insas at a reasonable price. Must admit I was tempted by the Kingpins though.

Apologies fell into the newb trap of not doing a search!! Im used to these type of forums too, fail, DOH!!

I have done a search now:) and a bloke in Nottingham/Derby area has been mentioned in a previous thread. I have recently seen his current advert on ebay before joining this forum-doing sets of 4 from £230;
235 70 16 Kingpin ADVANTAGE Tyres x 4 | eBay

Intresting with the balancing issues, maybe it could be because there re-moulds? Though they are tested throughly to make sure fit for retail.... The company rapour seems good.

The tyres in the link look/have a similar tread pattern to ones i've seen on range rovers. Aslong as they can deal with the odd field/mud n bit of snow we get im happy.....though a steady bit of geen lane action does look fun too:D. Only trick i have is to let abit of air out them haha!!

We had Kingpins on our old Series, exactly the same tread as the link and same size ... ;) They were pretty damn good! Great on-road and pretty competent off-road. I had no issues balancing them, but then the S3 wouldn't top 60 so balancing wasn't much of an issue.

I can't see the more aggressive ones being bad, as such, and for the price I'd probably try them, if I were in the market .. though nowadays I stick mostly to BFG AT's .. ;)

Fitted A/T's to our Disco 1 at 150k ran to 194k until rings went.
Tyres were ok on wet grass/muddy tracks not deep mud.
Felt insecure when braking on wet roads.

This is the problem you will get with any aggressive tread tyres, its simply a case of big chunks of tyre don't work on wet tarmac so you need to think how much are you ctually going to use it off road? If its laning and the rare off road day then decent AT's will be perfect. If you intend to use it more for off roading and laning then road use then get something like the ones you have picked, I use Insa Sahara Turbos and love them, quiet and smooth. You can 'compensate' for the crap braking distances by being more aware, I still wouldn't want those kinda tyres for a daily driver though....

Thanks for your comments guys much appriciated..

In the end i went for some kingpin tyres that have the same tread pattern as an old Michlin tyre (like my spare)-blocky type pattern not aggressive, similar to what older range rovers came with as standard i think. Eventually pictures will follow when it stops raining and ican valet it! The tyres also feel fine under braking...

Decent tread for mud and snow and occasional off road which is what i was after. I used the guy off ebay and went down to his garden centre £260 for four tyres fitted and balanced. Had some insa turbo's that you mentioned there to but had to be realistic! Also some other large nobbly off rd tyres there too that the more hardcore people will no doubt use/prefer. Decent stock...
