L322 Key programming

Hi everyone just been trying to program another key for my 06 L322, previous owner said he struggled and didn’t manage anyway iv tried the new key in ignition pull out press lock and unlock 3 times and locks cycle as they should, however it them seems to “forget” the working key that I previously used, I can then go back to programming the original working key the same way, programs fine locks cycle etc but then the new key gets “forgotten” anyone any ideas? Both keys have original LR fob cases and looking at state of them I’m guessing both original to the car.

I think you have to do the programming cycle of the 2 in quick succession.
 
Maby but with me older td6, I had one working key and another that didn’t, so programmed the non working key and it worked fine and the car didn’t forget the original key so I then had two keys. This seems like it’s doing either one or the other.

I do know that on some models, the keys both have to be programmed with in a very short time frame.
 
Will try again tomorrow, will program the second key then right after the locks cycle I’ll do the original key and see what happens.

Having what sounds like the same issue. Program one key, then it forgets the second. Same cycle over and over. Let us know how you get on..
 
Plus 1 with regards to having all the keys with u when programming , had to do that when I done my keys using the gap iid

also considerably cheaper as I got a new key from eBay , had the blank cut , £10 , think the total cost me around £60
 
Do need to get the eBay key as both mine are getting tatty.

found this , hope it’s useful to u , alas not used them personally , a lot cheaper than a dealer who quote around &250 plus vat for a key

 
Think all dealers have your pants down for keys. LR don’t seem as bad as some, friend of mine has a newish C class and paid nearly £400 for a key!

ouch, talking of expensive keys I dread to think what a brand new Range Rover key would cost from jlr
 
most locksmiths get a bit tardy if they dont supply the blank so try to find an accommodating one . I but the silver flip type off flea bay for about 40 pounds . Have to buy a reader and copier for the bmw type ,take the ews module off follow their instructions and youll soon have working key fobs,the chip comes in the fobs. when you try to sync the remotes ,ALL keys have to be done in quick succession .obviously the above for l 322
 
Orderd the flip type yesterday so hopefully that will come Friday, then we have a couple of timpsons, and local key cutting places so hopefully at least one will do the cutting, then try the programming.
 
I have heard they can be funny about it. Like I say we do have a couple of local cobblers/ key cutting places only downside is one only opens half a week and other doesn’t seem great with keys, had a few house keys done and had to give them a bit of a fettle with a file to get them running smooth in the lock.
 
Must confess when I had my keys cut they had a machine that would cut the blank key as is was new, machine would ignore the worn parts of the old key and cut a new key as it came out the factory , hope that sort of makes sense

for the life of me can't remember what they called the machine , only that is very expensive and clever of how it could cut a new key without the worn areas

this was the company is used in Kent in case it’s useful to others

 
Possibly a similar thing used by our local guy then, if a lock and key are worn together that’s probably why iv had to fettle any new key from him to make it run smooth, nothing major just like run a file over the points just to take that initial sharp point off etc.
