Disco 1 Key fob antenna problem......

Hi all,

Just got back from the shops using wife's car with the disco keys in pocket and then got home and went to unlock Landy 300tdi disco and it wouldn't work on the key fob, so I opened with key and alarm goes off etc. Changed battery's etc to no avail, but did notice that if I hold key fob in middle of windscreen at the bottom the fob works. I have two fobs and they are both the same. So has anyone any idea as to what this is, could it be a antenna problem etc?

Have you used a good quality battery? not a pound shop special.
Is it parked in its normal place, Have heard of external interference affecting D2's not sure about Tdi's.

Thanks for reply. They were good quality battery's and seem to have lasted for a good while in past and still parked same place where normally works.

Let's start with identifying the system u have, one or two button fob?
One has an external antenna. Two the antenna is fitted within the ECU.

Ok, so the fob only works just in the center of the windscreen and not for instance by the door mirror on the near side.

The fob reception distance isn't great anyway and that can be reduced with a low vehicle battery power as well as the fob battery, I assume the synchronising of the fob after replacing the battery is included in your replacing battery 'etc' or is there something else, it's unusual when the same thing happens with two fobs, they both can't be faulty... can they.

Ok so just went outside to try again on the off chance and to be fair it seems to be working as normal now but still puzzled. To be fair the range has never been very good Iv always had to be at the side of the car in order for it to work.

My range is only arround a metre distance, but that can increase after a run and the battery is charged to around four metres and then back to the normal one meter next morning, always been the same.
So hopefully the glitch is gone, also the alarm will sound when using key that's normal, as I'm sure u know, in any vehicle that has a voltage drop sensing security system.
