Just say Hybrid, and you'll be ok!

I doubt very much that is a Series 3 chassis, but as we don't know the actual legality of it (although it does look very suspect) it may well be the 'conversion' (or vin plate swap as it can also be known) was done before the regulations changed.

However, I am very impressed with how good it looks, and how clean that drive is underneath. I only hope it is a legal vehicle.

Looks to be 88 inch wheelbase but not alot 88 on there. I'm reluctant to condem it. There are plenty of ways to build a legit one designer chassis or cut down RR or disco or whatever........

Seller states:
"i was told the vehicle was first put together in 97/98 and built using a shortened to 88" wheelbase very early 90 chassis and various early 90 panels which is exactly what it is"

1982 is the earliest 90 chassis I've ever heard of. The registration no. could have been bought privately and legally I suppose, but it seems unlikely as it's registered - and is being sold as - a 1982 vehicle, which it isn't.

looks like a right mogrel to me though, tidy yes but with some peculiar touches, 200 disco console for instance, and what on earth are those seats in there for?

Too soon forgotten this (albeit a bling version) was THE way to make a good trialer/comp road legal motor it's far too easy to slag it off! Back when this was standard practice or the thing to do. Take one accident damaged 90 or more commonly a 20 yo RRC cut the chassis down throw it under an 88 get it mot'd, taxed and insured jobs good! It also wasn't that uncommon for metro head lights to be fitted and insured as a modified metro

It WAS how it was done if it had been declared back in the early 90's and then mot'd insured etc then and apart from the metro headlights which was quite extreme but common.

Most hybrids have been taken off the road rusted away driven into the ground never to return however those that hold the rights are getting pricey even old wrecks as they can be rebuilt.

I have a 100 inch Hybrid built in Jan 97 by some Landrover specialist in Warwickshire, all legitimate and proper, it is concerning that everyone seems very down on them implying that every single one of them is either trying to evade road tax or his stolen in some way.

I bought it as I liked it, and wanted a 100 inch Landy, but to be honest some of you are taking the jam out of my doughnut, I suppose as its registered still as the original 73 Landrover and it will become tax free next year, something I might add had no idea would happen when I bought it last year, some of you Hybrid ragers will foam at the mouth about it being tax free from April?

I like you chaps, but getting bent out of shape about Hybrids I find a little odd.

I have no problem with that, assuming the chassis is the original 109 cut down, or even a new replacement for it. But the vehicle in question is registered as a 1982, which is impossible.

No, the chassis is from a Range Rover. the original chassis was disposed of according the history file.

I just don't like the seller, so up himself, if he likes it that much he'd keep it. The whole "this blue is so special i won't tell anyone the paint code except for the buyer" and "people stop in their tracks to photograph it and wave and stuff" :puke:

Really?

more like point and laugh.

The blue isn't anything specail, seen much nicer colours and it just looks like a standard 90 from outside, no one is going to stop and point. If it was jacked up to hell monster truck type thing, then, yeah, ok, people may, but, that's just a 90, get over yourself.
