just paid the crooks...

well it was insurance renewal time again yesterday and and swift wanted £430 to auto renew my policy (me and me biyatch fully comp - shes quite a bit younger than me) from last years £280 so I kindy declined their offer, she shopped around (compare the meerkat) and got the same cover with shielaswheels for £270, she then mentioned the fact that we can get no claims protection for £30 and it would be worth it as I would probably "go mental if she lost my 10 years+ no claims"

So I paid the legalised crooks and thats me sorted for another year. I remember a better time when every year you would look forward to being rewarded for your careful driving and your premium would go down and down considerably, looks like these days are well and truly gone.

Always best to shop around. Same with recovery firms. AA etc try to get you on direct debit, then sting you hard on renewal date, hoping you don't notice, or can't be bothered to do anything about it.
I hate having to do the car insurance thing, cos its all wrong, us having to pay for others mistakes.
I wonder if it will get any better with this new government thing, taking the uninsured cars off the road. It should mean the fees will come down, but I bet they don't..

I bet they wont either, And this auto renewal crap, they used to call you up before your renewal date and say if you want to auto renew to let them know and they will do it for you, now its if you DONT tell them before the deadline they will just renew automatically as they have my card details and slap a stupid auto renewal figure there hoping you havent got the fight left in you to sort it out not put the premium down as I have one years more experience and the car is one year older and worth less. Everything is so wrong its like every time a barrel of oil goes up in price the fuel price at the pumps goes up too, but when the price of a barrel drops they dont knock it off the pump price, And dont even get me going on road tax....

Can't agree more chaps. Just had this with home insurance. Told them I wouldn't renew, and amazingly she managed to knock it down to only 50p more than last year. Apparently its coz u get introductary bonus when u first take policy, what happened to 'thanks for being a valued customer, here's a healthy discount' bonus...

Try not to allow any company to take your card details, only they can cancel the charge to the card, you, as cardholder cannot. Even if you close the card account they will still have to pay (and charge you!) and there is nothing you can do.

Give bank details then go in and cancel DD.

I have been given 12 months AA cover (linked to the Disco as I feel I may need it!) as I have my house insurance with the AA. They want a payment method for next year so I have given bank details and will cancel it as soon as it appears putting me back in control.

Its a real battle these days stopping these companies taking our money!!!!

least your insurance isn't 1300 a year and not allowed to modify it much..

Very good idea cheers for that buddy, they are tossers arent they, when I was on the phone to the thief I said to him "look mate I know your all on commission and like to try it on but lets cut the crap whats absolute lowest you can do me as if its not good enough im walking" he quoted me the renewal figure so I told him I was leaving, he then said to my disbelief "well if you manage to get it cheaper anywhere else phone us back and we will try to match it" Figure that one out?:scratching_chin:
