hi all, I have a 2000 disco td5 with 116k miles on the clock. I have never had a land rover before so all new to me, first thing is I have a high pitched whistle when reving, and sometimes when warm and under load it sounds like an air leak. I have looked at all the turbo hoses but they all look ok so is this just normal?
Also sometimes under load there is a slight misfire. I have replaced injector harness and cleaned ecu plug, changed oil and filters and fitted new genuine MAF.

These could all be normal sounds for a td5 but like I say its all new to me. also do all td5's sound like a tractor. :)

have other faults to but will look at them another day

i did look at manifold and looks clean (no black and all studs intact) and looks like it has had a new gasket recently.
the chassis on this 1 looks quite clean, i did however find a few small rust patches under the rear carpet when i tried to access the fuel pump. The previous owner obviously couldnt fit the retaining ring so left it flopping around on the top of tank, so when i filled up for the 1st time i managed to close half the petrol station off after the fuel poured straight out the top of the tank

Sounds very much like its connected to the waste gate modulator. Check the small pipes that connect to it. A split in one would make the hissing sound and cause the missfire under load.

thanks for all your help guys, i have checked every hose and they all seem good, the manifold has no black anywhere on it and all studs are there and tight.
I have come to the conclusion that it is just how the engine sounds and i am just being paranoid.

took it for a run earlier and no missfire and all drives fine apart from the odd puff of smoke when pulling away but guess this is normal to

Yes I changed both oil filters, oil, fuel filter and air filter last week along with the injector harness and rocker cover gasket. Oh and a new maf. It is running alot better than it was when I got it. Before I did all this it was very low on power.
