Hi all,

Looking for some advice again. I very rarely engage low range on my defender, but recently tried it on an uneven lane, and found that it engages okay, but then disengages as soon as I pull away. Also the light on the dash isn't lighting up when engaged. Has anyone got any ideas please?

Cheers,
Clive.

Does sound like it is not going in all the way, could be crud/corrosion blocking the movement of the lever. Pay's to exercise the high low and diff lock a couple of times a month. You could try holding the lever in the low position as you drive off it may find its way in. Light only works with the diff lock and only comes on when the lock goes in and not when the lever is moved.

Bet the plastic bushes have totally worn away, pretty much impossible to see unless you remove trans tunnel, the whole linkage is a bit pants even when it is all new.
