You may have something in the heater blower leaves may be
passenger side behind glove box
look up remove that cardboard panel see blower remove clean out, about 4 screws i think and electrical conection.

It's just the fan assist in the climate control.
It won't have any effect on the outcome of the MoT, just leave it switched off.
By the sound of it, the fan could be running a bit off balance, but at least it is running; either due to worn bearings or some foreign body or substance which might have found its way into the fan chamber.
If you can find a way in to give it a squirt of lube, try that first.

AC blower fan ...
Remove the glove box, (I think one philips screw on the side), glove box drops down, and the fan housing is located right behind that, couple more screws and the fan and squirrel cage come out together.

I would inspect it, it may just have leaves in it, ... Spray some lube on the bearings and see if it helps.

Then to prevent another fan failure replace the Cabin air filter ...

I agree that noise sounds like bearings or a leaf in the fan chamber.
Although think yourself lucky as when I saw the jet engine thread, I was reminded of the friend with a disco that had so many leaves in the heater matrix it caught fire and spat the flames out through the air vents while we were on a trip, filling the cab with smoke.
I now travel with a fire extinguisher.

What's working is that wasn't the scariest of my travelling stories, I know what wheel bolts look like when they fly of your wheels and land in your windscreen wipers recess while travelling at 70 down a motorway in a Ford Orion.
Good luck with your mot part 2.
