Could you not keep one of the landys and do away with the slitty!!!!!

So where do all the second hand parts come from? What about all the crashed ones? What about all the rusted away Discos that donate engines to others? What about all the stolen Landies (apart from the Ringers)? What about the ones the ID comes from to go on a Ringer? What about all the 1.8 Freelanders with blown gaskets and written off engines? What about all the comp vehicles? What avout the ones on the back of the Atlantic Conveyor? etc etc etc..
spare parts come from the30 percent that arnt on the road,,:D:D:rolleyes::D

land rover defender driving 45 degrees up an hydrodam wall ... 70% of all land rovers ever made are still on the road to this day, try saying that about ... Ha ha I didn't even notice that percentage sign...my brain just automatically translated that to degrees. ... I think the Wilkes brothers were two geniuses! ...

firstly where?Secondly wheres the proof?Simply aint proveable and probbaly aint true
found it, it says "Land Rover once advertised that 75% of all vehicles ever built are still in use" so something said in a advert aint reliable info

that quote was bandied about 30 years ago when most of the landies produced were series vehicles, in recent years with the production of freelanders , rangerovers and even discos the percentage of scrapped vehicles will have increased markedly

Errmmm winched up not driven and they had about 12 batteries in the back to make sure it made it up.

I drove a shogun when I first joined this forum. Thouoght it was the nuts. Until I went out with a series and a disco. The parts are stupid prices and the clearance issues on the shogun are shocking in comparison wuith landy parts. They do have th advantage of a rear diff lock being fitted as standard which can be useful, but I still found I was being pulled out of the **** more than I was driving it!

For road use the V6 was every bit as comfortable as my V8 disco, but the disco does have more room in the back. Going down some lanes north of Bedford in the shogun, my baby was almost knocking her head against the window when things got rocky...something she can not do in the disco.

Land Cruisers do have a rep for reliability but when they go wrong they go seriously wrong. Landy's may experience a simple problem or two but if they are maintained properly then almost anything can be fixed at the side of the road.

Just my two pennorth

Clearly superior Japanese engineering!

Mate has a Hyundai/Kia thing, big 4x4. Talking to him tonight - apparently it's got an automatic 4-wheel drive system - normally runs rear wheels only except when traction lost and fronts engage. Except he has to replace all 4 tires every time cos it picks up on tire wear and ties itself in knots. Utter crap.

I looked at buying an old Cherokee a few years ago - I havent seen so much rust since my ex-wife's 1970 Beetle.

sort of reminds me of another car..... oh yeah, the freelander:rolleyes:

Trouble is that when you want 4wd... you really want it engaged BEFORE you lose traction not afterwards when the damage is already done. That's why you engage the FWH on a series before you trundle into the mud....not after tha damn thing gets stuck.
