I've got my cylinder head back on and the other bits refitted, i did the rave tightening sequence with 20Nm then 4 stages of 90 degrees.

The new gasket stands out (shiney) and the gap between the block and head seems big compared to my old one, the new gasket maybe thicker, i'm paranoid that it's not properly sealed.

Will it be ok to compression test the cylinders before i refill with coolant and change the oil to see if the new gasket is fitted properly.

I don't want to replace all the fluids then have to drain them if i've cocked up with head gasket and it as to come off again.

No problem to run an engine for a minute or so with no coolant in it. So just cranking it for a compression test will be fine.

In a dry liner engine, yes not a problem running it for short periods without coolant. I'd not run a wet liner engine without coolant though, especially a K series ;)
Doing a compression test without coolant isn't a problem though ;)
Just disable the injectors.
