Bought my disco 1 clutch from Island 4x4 through the bay, it failed the next day and after searching the forums it appears Britpart do a large line in crap parts, anyway I wrote to island 4x4 explaining the clutch had failed miserably and I would be returning it for a full refund, what a surprise they did not answer, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and emailed again through the bay still no response, funny when emailing asking about parts the response was instant, so like most buyers on the bay I started a complaint through the resolution centre and would you believe it received an instant response from island 4x4, they have agreed to refund once they have received the clutch back. Oh but I have to foot the bill for the return postage on a part that they supplied that was not what it appeared to be. So fellow landy owners beware of the bay and dodge sellers

"So fellow landy owners beware of the bay and dodge sellers"

Surely you don't mean to warn buyers away from using ebay? You got a result for the very reason you bought through them and not directly from the vendor.

A Britpart item? Well there you go. They only sell the stuff, they don't make it. Island sell other makes too. Telephone number is on eBay, it doesn't hurt to ask. If you were to buy a clutch from anywhere else for around the same price, it would be Britpart.

Had various items from them, I place orders by phone, you get to speak to someone, ask what make the parts are and pay by credit card therefore you're protected under section whatever bla, bla, bla.....

Perhaps I was at fault expecting to get quality on eBay, but on the other hand I still expect after service not a total blank, the way I have been treated by Island 4x4 is disrespectful whichever way you look at it, and any future sales they may have won are now gone forever.

Used Island many times and had nothing but top service. Items always came next day. I even had issues fitting one part so phoned them up and got good tech advice :)

Strange a clutch would go in one day, sure it was fitted correctly  i know Britpart stuff isnt great but I would be be surprised if it was THAT **** :D

the quality has nothing to do with ebay, chances are you bought the cheapest clutch you could find (britpart) and it failed on you unsurprisingly.

You raised a claim and won so wheres the problem.

Fair enough island didnt get back to you which is very poor customer service. They supplied you with your order and you are going to get a refund which is a lot better than a friend of mine is getting from britpart (claim he was off roading/towing in the week it took to fail).

Places like island, paddocks, craddocks etc have to sell britpart since there are a lot of owners who want to pay as little as possible and if they dont stock it buyers will go elsewhere. Usually though there is a choice to pay a bit more for a better product. eg paddocks sell 3 different service kits for tdi engines britpart - cheapest, coopers - mid range & branded - for those who have too much money :p

Next time pay a little more and get an ap or borg&beck or even a hd clutch.

I'd get on to Britpart, be diplomatic with them, tell them you are disappointed that their part failed, however it's not their fault one of their stockists is pathetic and won't honour your consumers rights to a full refund. Put that in writing, and CC in Island 4x4 (with a cover letter) and send them both a copy showing them both that Island 4x4 have been CCed in. Britpart will then put some pressure on them hopefully.

However, your contract was with Island 4x4, so get onto them and bring to their attention your consumer rights to a full refund, assuming you bought it within four weeks.

Any item you buy from a trader (internet too) must be, of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and described. This clutch was probably only the latter. You are legally entitled to a repair, refund or replacement. In this case I would take a refund and go elsewhere to make a point and get a (AP) Borg and Beck or Valeo.

Did you pay my credit card and was the bill over £100 they can also intervene.

Yes clutch was fitted correctly, I’ve fitted quite a few over the years, I have to say I have never used Britpart before, and after buying this clutch and doing a search on Britpart I have found numerous people all complaining about poor parts from Britpart, probably out of one of the ex colonials stamped out of sheet metal with a sledge hammer.

Thank you for your words I will write a letter of complaint. I have this morning bought a replacement clutch a Borg tried and trusted.
