is it normal

just wondered if any one could advise i have owned my disco for just over a week 2002 2.5td5 85k on clock full servie history last done @84k...
i seem to get a lot of dark smoke first n second gear from round abouts , junction etc is this normal for a big diesel engine only had petrol cars before . thanks in advance and sorry to sound so lame

I get a plume of smoke on startup then I do if I hammer it then lift off instantly. Has someone messed about with the fuelling?

Try Sticking a bottle of Forte Desiel Treatment in it, and take it for a decent run up a bypass.

Check the air filter first. ( dont take any ones word for the service history ).

Black smoke is usually a sign of not enough air in the mix.

You could also be looking at a faulty air flow sensor, collapsed turbo hose, or even a poor ecu re-map !.

EGR possibly. How much smoke we talking? Is it when the turbo is working or as soon as you rev it?

its more like a cloud under early acceleration once turbo kicks in its fine , checked air filter looks new, oil doesnt look over dirty and doesnt smell like old oil does ,(if that makes sense) not sure if fueling has been messed with , suprised how little miles i get to the pound but hey ... i wouldnt change it
