Hy everyone!Been in quarantine I've spend some time on internet and I saw this Honda CR-R with lots of mods big tires lift kits and so on...Are those Honda's better than the Freelander? And why? I will to be more parts for Freelander on the market and see people who are actually moding some freelander. For me my 112hp 260nm 2002 Land Rover freelander it's a very nice car I'll keep maybe forever. I've bought it last year and since I had no problem at all.

In my opinion the Freelander just needs some aftermarket parts and it's gonna be better than every Honda or Rav-4.

CRV driving position is utter shít the seat doesn't go far enough back, everything feels like it is made of recycled shoes and they handle like a camel with no legs..

Seats are also very uncomfortable, and if you spunk over the Auto it'll fall to shít in no time.

engines ain't too bad, oh and they rot like fook anorl.

Its difficult to compare modded cars as some mods perform betterer than others. Sticking massive tires (25% biggerer) on a car increases the top speed a bit but reduces the power a bit so eggscelleration won't be as good. It increases ground clearance but slipping the clutch on a hill to pull away needs a bit more as all the gears become higher. That would cause concerns oft road for me. Eggspecially with a manwell gearbox. The auto would take it out but the preferred power ranges would be out. Yer have to remember our lite fluffy Freelander's are betterer oft road than a challenger ii tank, with the same transmission, but it's not as heavy duty as some would think. So the clutch would suffer a bit.

If comparing the honda crv to a Freelander 1 like they did years ago int motoring press then the honda always won on economy, price, reliability projections etc. All the sensible stuff. The Freelander 1 did a bit betterer oft road and had the fun factor in driving. Freelander 1 had betterer looks and power/torque was a bit betterer suited to towing. It also had the lr badge.

Freelander 1 reliability wasn't helped by the petrols. With the honda crv it was the diesels that were unreliable. The Freelander 1 was the first lr to have a 3 year warranty and corrosion protection. The warranty was well used by some owners. Yer average person wouldn't need to lift the bonnet on a new car in the first few years. The Freelander 1 was a bit different to that.

In the days when the Freelander 1 sized vehicle was being considered (1988) rover and honda worked together. Rover wanted a 4wd as they could see a market for one that was more car like in size (and an improvement on the tratter and range rover). They could also see the higher profit margins of lr vehicles compared to their rover cars and wanted a slice of that. After some designs and tinkering etc honda pulled out saying they didn't think the project was pheasible and worth while. There was also internal issues within the rover group as land rover were keen to have the new project car for themselves but didn't want to work outside the group with honda. So honda ended up splitting away and lr got the new project. Rover must have been well p"ssed but the new project was more suited to the lr brand. It would sell for more badged as lr instead of rover. Not many years later honda popped out their own 4x4 which was the honda crv. Strange considering what was said when they backed out of what became the Freelander project.

In all honesty lr had been trying to create the Freelander since the first pre-production tratter in 1947 and range rover int late 1960's development. Both of them essentually prototype Freelanders to test engineering and the market. It wasn't until the 90's they finally got it right but didn't have the money to push it through. There were many prototypes like the light weight 90 with a kv6 and another with an L series diesel. Eggsample of one of each eggsist today in museums. Along comes bmw who backed the project financially as soon as they took control. Added improvements and investment to push through the project to complete it and out pops the Freelander. Later referred to as the Freelander 1 when then Freelander 2 cames out. In advertising it was always Freelander and Freelander 2 when lr talked about them.

The honda crv was always considered the betterer choice on paper. Economy, price, residule value etc but the Freelander 1 had the looks, fun factor and the lr badge. Won massive amounts of awards like Europe's best selling 4x4 over many years. Took lr sales to a new height having outsold considerably more units than lr's highest of projections. Brought in lots of much needed cash to help them to continue and save the company. Also set the standard for future lr designs like independent suspension and steering that was precise rather than vague.

I always remember getting lro and seeing the baby grey 5 door on the front cover when first revealed. Ironically sat int hair dressers reading about the new beast. Lro were cautious about no low range, independent suspension etc. I always wanted a tratter but got given a free Freelander 1 some years later and never looked back. When asked if I had of preferred it to be a honda crv...

No fukin chance. ;)
