Hi guys I am looking for a bit of advice I have a 2005 TD4 with 143,000 on the clock.

I have a clonk in reverse and some times forward but only on lock either side. I have eliminated a few possibilities.

It has (all recently) 3 new diff bearings, reconditioned VCU and propshaft UJ's so most of the usual guilty culprits. It drives fine and apart from the clonks there is only one other symptom and that is that on right hand turns that are tightish at a speed of about 20MPH I get a rumbling that sounds like a bearing but isn't cos I have changed that too.

Tyres are all the same etc and even wear.

Any advice about whether this is consistent with IRD issues? or is there another simple possibility? (and cheaper)

Subframe all looks ok but as I understand the later ones did not have this issue though the clonk is definately drivetrain?

Anyone know anywhere in Essex that will give good honest diagnosis without convincing me to spend the earth if it does not need it yet?

Thanks in advance

Would the CV joints cause a clonk on other areas of the drivetrain as it certainly sounds like its not coming from the wheel area?

You can easily test if its the engine mounts, open the bonnet and have someone bring the clutch up to bite while the handbrake is on. You'll easily see how much everything is moving, mine had the same problem. Horrendous clonking!

Hi guys thanks for the input sorry not been back on here for a couple of days. It does shake a bit when you turn it off so will try to check the engine mounts.

Can I check them easily and are they easy to change with the engine in?

Anyone pictures etc?

The diff mounts are all fine an new.
