Just to let everybody who's interested the Blanking Plates are back on Ebay. This is for any FL owners that are unlucky to have their IRD insides totalled , and cant remedy the matter by removing the propshaft.
they are priced at £19.95 + £2 P+P .
I purchased 1 last year just in case after having fitted a new IRD 2 years ago but didn't replace the VCU and ended up having The Plate fitted 2 weeks ago ,and it runs well and went thru a MOT and had no probs with the propshaft "not present" .
A printed fitting guide was also supplied .
A bit of a safety net to have "just in case"
And before anybody suggests it - No I'm not related to the seller and I'm not getting a cut of sales , its just its saved me shelling out for a replacement IRD

I still can't see the point in these, the only thing you are removing from the IRD is the pinion,

At £20 their having a laugh, anyone old sheet aluminium would suffice.

Mad Hat Man will want to know if you have informed your insurance of this mod? ;)

Hey N/I thats a pint I owe you ! , it had slipped my mind about contacting the Ins. Company . So I spoke to them and Notified that my FL had the propshaft removed, due to the IRD being Cream Crackered and they took the details and put it in the notes on my Policy. Theres no extra costing .So now I'm " Road Legal " again . Cheers.

You are totally right that a plate could be made out of Aluminium! , But maybe not everybody's confident enough to do it and if you can purchase a plate specially made for the job thats saving the time and locating a piece of Aluminium ,the £22 is worth all the hassle. If you get a chance have a wee swatch at it on Ebay and you'll see its not a flat sheet just cut to the shape of the Flange, its got a lip shaped to fit into where the recess of the propshaft coupling bolted.
And thanx for the Insurance reminder
