Hi all looking for a little advice, 1999 td5 discovery that interior lights will only stay on for 30 seconds at a time which isn,t even long enough to strap my 3 yr old into his seat, can the interior light timing be altered using diagnostic equipment such as hawkeye? If i open any door the interior lights come on as expected they also operate on pressing unlock on remote but only stay on 30 seconds when door is still open. Also if you get in car close door and turn on ignition, lights stay on till the 30 seconds is up which i thought the ignition should extinguish the lights, it is my understanding from rave that lights should stay on for approx 8 mins with door open and that this is controlled by BCU. Could this mean that bcu is faulty or am i missing something??

Your lights are not working as they should they should stay on longer with the doors open and go strait off when you turn the key sorry but i dont know whats wrong with them lol

ermmmm bit of a long shot but.....
do they not have a switch on them
Unfortunately switch is on light above rear seat so i can reach it but not with 3 yr old tantruming in my arms and my missus can only reach it if she climbs into car which is resulting in her refusing to use car at night because its so inconvenient!

Yes, there is something wrong. Unfortunately it's not adjustable with tester. Is the car converted on coils? ..cos if it is there might be an answer... did u keep more doors open at the same time and no joy either?

If it was converted on coils it could have been setted by accident/mistake on tranzit mode from the SLABS ECU, on tranzit mode the interior courtesy lights will stay on 15 secs in any occasion, no matter what u do. This tranzit mode can be unset with tester.

sorry for really slow response really busy at work at mo. car is on springs but its a 5 seat so as far as i,m aware its factory standard, theres no evidence of it ever being on airbags, a friend of a friend has a snap on diagnostic system would this be able to check for transit mode or is it a hawkeye/testbook job??

as for doors doesn,t matter if you open one door or all of them, i,ll time lights 2moro as i just guessed at around 30 seconds, but they come on with door open then go off after short time gap regardless of what you do, is there any other tell tale signs of transit mode?

Snap-on will not do the job...hawkeye/nanocom/T4/autologic . I dunno about factory fitted coils but anyway it has the same SLABS ECU / BCU and the scheme is also the same so by accident a non SLS car can be setted on tranzit mode. U can recognise the tranzit mode only if SLS is active.

See this and u'll understand

It could be some system fault though ... but before entering deep in some diagnose u must be certain that it's not in tranzit mode

'Transport Mode' which basically means the suspension fully deflates to the bump stops on ignition off, which will be a N/A if you have a five seater with springs

If u know the full history of the car u can rely on that ^^^ but if som time ago the SLABS ECU (or BCU) was replaced with a second hand one it might be in the memory and nobody bothered to check the SLS settings. It's very possible that a SLS equipped car was carried to the scrapyard/garage on a trailer setted to transport. Happened to me(a friend)... though it was a converted from SLS to coils car which was transported to the garage on trailer... after they made the conversion to coils they setted the ECU for that but forgot to unset the tranzit mode.
