Upon reading into engine tuning, many people are saying they washed out their icoolers with a degreaser to get rid of unwanted gunge inside it. Is this worth doing .. For the sake of it .. As in general maintenance .. Or only to improve performance ?

if its very dirty and not just wet with oil ,inlet manifold gets blocked if egr is still functioning as hot gas and oil vapour make good carbon

My egr is still functioning, but i bought a kit to blank it off on friday should be here this week, is worth doing it "just coz" when i blank off the egr then ?

never hurts keeping inlet side clean, manifold will want a good clean anyhow, youll be able to see intercooler condition if you remove it through bottom hole if its only oily just prop it so it drains

If You are going to De-EGR then I would say that to get the best from that mod you should remove the intercooler, clean the outside with Brake and Clutch cleaner aerosol, to ensure the cooling air can pass through the fins.

Then clean the inside of the 'cooler with white spirits or similar, and leave to soak for at least 1 hour. Then empty out, re-fill with WP, agitate and empty and allow to dry before re-fitting.

Also check the inlet manifold for a tar-like substance blocking the entrance hole.
