So the search for the landie continues........

Have seen two on car and classic that looked ok - one (the one I liked ) has gone (arse) the other was a bit left field but as I would have been down that way I thought it would be worth a look........

So as per normal I decieded to check out the insurance for both - 88" nice and cheap - £200 (no off road parking) series III with a perkins TD - wait for it -

Fully Comp

Breakdown cover Included

£300 excess

Window cover - complementary mind you

£9041 or £10250 if paid monthly!

Tempting as it was I decieded to decline......

I take it that any mod needs to be carefully considered before purchase but I was under the impression that a Perkins engine wasn't that odd?

Any good landrover friendly insurance companies out there you can recomend?????

Is that all, take out 2 policys to make sure.

My 109" 300tdi, with td5 intercooler, disco axles, disco wheels, nothing original is less then 200 notes.

Think you'd better tell your insurance company where to stick it.

There has been some pretty major increases in insurance premiums, partly due to the snow and ice last year, there will have been zillions of claims, and with todays claims direct mentality insurance firms will have been hit hard.

Finding em is easy - but personal recomendation/good experiences can't be found with a search engine!

Not suggesting you use the google search:doh: use the search function below that one and you'll find a few hundred threads on this site on the very subject of insurance full of recommendations and experiences good and bad.

FOOTMAN JAMES

(getting the hint yet?)

FOOTMAN JAMES

£100 fully comp, unlimited mileage, break down cover, european cover, windscreen cover, legal cover, winch covered, 200tdi engine covnersion, green lane cover, etc. and i'm just about to turn 25 with 3 points on the license from 4 1/2 years ago.

Only thing they won't cover is P&P sites - fair enough really :)

A????? Footman james told me they would'nt insure me as im self employed an my 109 series3 is a van!!! the snooty woman was very rude when i tried to put her straight she put the phone down!! botox 2 you as well.

im 46 by the way with 3 points an trying to insure my old landie has become a nightmare.

good luck is all i can say.

Lancaster are pretty cheap! I think my old spitfire cost something like £130 with full breakdown cover fully comp. The landy is on trade, so no idea!

Don't know anyone that pays over £200 comp though! Only thing with lancaster, they do renew automatically, so if you shop around the next year - be aware that they will renew if you don't tell them quick enough.

I've just insured my series 2a for £50 a year fully comp but limited to 2000 miles, it was so cheap because I already had an existing classic car policy for another vehicle and they just tacked it on. They said it was so little because I couldn't drive all three of my cars at once so with each additional one the risk is lower. In total I pay £300 for an MGF VVC and the landrover that's for me and my old man (who has 6 points)
Only problem is as I started the strip the landy to do a bit of mot welding I got a bit carried away and am now down to just a chassis and engine so if I don't hurry up and get welding it could be very expensive insurance!

Adrian flux do good quotes for landies. for myself a 20 year old on a series 3 with 200tdi conversion came out at £750 just call them for a specialist quote.
