so still have problems - having stripped off all the old connections, I now have what appears to be + and -ve connections for all lights, plus another thicker black lead that goes to earth. I don't quite understand why there is this other lead - it appears to be separate (at least, it comes out of the loom separate) to all the other leads - so a bit confused.

I also can't find a route from any positive back to the battery - connecting a circuit test between sidelight/indicator/side repeater + and either their respective - or the black earth one, or both, still shows no connection - which if I'd not turned on lights or indicators would be right, but is certainly odd when they are on.....

so I appear to have broken it much more convincingly than before.....

any ideas?

as ever, electrical issues on LR = earth problems. Remade all connections with new bullet connectors, reseated earth, all ok. But nightly puzzling at the time, and took some detailed poring over the wiring diagrams.....
