yes it's easy to drain all those, just fiddly to refill the gearbox if you don't have a pump being as the filler/level plug is on the passeger side of the gearbox

Could be the handbrake drum full of sludge. Or worse! Before you take it anywhere I would strongly advise changing the rest of your fluids!

I find the easiest way to refill the gearbox is to take the passenger floor and gearbox cover out and come at it from that way. For the transfer box, take the fill plug out on the back and fill from the inspection cover on top. Only thing is, after a couple of times doing it like that you'll probably want a new cork gasket as it'll start to seep. I want one of these things!

I find the easiest way to change the gearbox oil is to drop a length if clean hosepipe down from the top of the engine and it's a nice fit into the gearbox filler plug. All you need then is a small funnel fitted into the pipe and gently pour the oil in. Done mine a few tea like that with no problems.

Filling gearbox,I take floor up and do it with a funnel that has a bit of hose on. Started doing it this way (and diffs) when I bought a new transmission oil gun that leaked, got another and that bugger leaked!

Ah, I use an old 1L EP oil bottle with one of them extendy nozzles - decanted into from one of my many 5L tubs of gear oil! I seem to get though a fair bit...

Got a hand siphon pump to do mine (£2.50 from the local discount warehouse)

Any harm in drilling and tapping the inspection covers (off the gearbox obviously) to make a screw in filler bolt (like the old transfer boxes had)?

Well,

Where's me gearbox oil gone?!

dropped the gearbox oil and just water came flooding out, nice and clear, almost drinkable. But I put in oil a few weeks ago so where's it gone and as I drove 6 miles with it like this does this mean the gearbox will go pop?

Transfer box was like milk.

Your oil has most likely migrated to the transfer box, if no signs of major leaks from the box or into the bell housing. Take the level plug out of the transfer box to see if it is over full, then drain and replace. Keep an eye on the oil levels in use, mine needs the gearbox topping up every 6/8 weeks and the transfer box level settled by taking the filler/level plug out. 6 miles should not really bother a series box low on oil.

All oils but the swivel have now been done.

Charlie's running ok (got his power back), but the thrust bearing is a bit noisy. Hope it doesn't need replacing as it's new from summer.

Will finish off next week.

Can we have a wading check list? or is there one.

Thanks to all!
