Hi All

I'm now the proud owner owner of an 06 TD4.

It didn't even let me get home before starting to cause trouble, the wife was following me home after picking it up. Half way home the brake lights stop working.

I've read the 3 amigo thread, no lights are on the dash, the reversing lights work so the fuse is OK, is the brake light switch the most obvious? The old version is currently in there.

Any help would be appreciated?

Thanks

First of all try bridging the wires that go to the switch this will enable you to check the rest of the system quickly and or eliminate the switch as the problem.

Try the earthing points behind the side panels in the back, clean and reattach, check the build holders for corrosion, clean & spray with WD40 aswell

Did you buy it from a dealer? If so take it back and let them sort it :)
Or get them to come to you as it should not be driven as it is.

Didn't buy from a dealer, so will be fixing it myself

Thanks for the pointers, i'll take a look.

Thanks for the advice, switch bridged and the lights come on. I've ordered the new switch and the small wiring loom addition.

Hopefully back on the road Tuesday when they arrive.

I bought the car over 100 miles away, so I'm not going to to go back just for this, its too much hassle. The lights worked when I left only stopped half way home.

Thanks All

at least send him the bill then ;)

use the faq section to check over everything else
i'd be worried if summat bust straight away if i'd bought it

Glad you are on the way to being sorted!

I wouldn't be too concerned about any other problems - switches can fail at any time. - it is a land rover though so ..........anything could happen at any time!

I doubt that a private seller will be willing to do much in the way of helping regarding costs, but it could be worth a conversation. :D

If it's a private sale, quite likely it will be regarded as seen tested and approved, legally there is no comeback on the seller unless there has been an obvious attempt to cover up a fault and thereby misslead the purchaser.

There's no harm in trying tho;)
