HT leads

Has anyone tried 'Performance Leads' HT leads?Discovery £0.00 - Land Rover Ignition leads - performance ignition leads UK I've been advised to get some 8mm leads as running LPG,and to get good quality ones but obviously keeping to a budget.How much difference do they make?

Save the extra and go for Magnecor KV85. they're not cheap but you'll never need to replace them.

I like to be wary of these super high price Magnecor but he's probably right!

What puts me off the most is that you can't get them in black afaik...

just buy bog standard OE lucas leads. performance leads won't make any difference

I measured resistance of some aftermarket leads vs some quality leads I have now, and the aftermarkets (behr OEM spec iirc) was about 4 times that of the quality set.

OEM Lucas will be good though I assume.

What's all this about using non suppressed leads with suppressed plugs or vice versa?

I understood it to be like:

Don't have plugs and leads supressed - too much resistance
Either plugs OR leads supressed is OK
non supressed both works but yer radio (and anyone elses who is next to you in a traffic jam) won't work. Which If you don't have a radio is pretty funny.

i think i have suppressed leads but the resistance is about 5 Kohms, which in comparision to my other cheapo set, might be quite low.

I have just fitted NGK R plugs, are these suppressed.

should i fit BP6ES instead of BPR6ES? (iirc)

they might say suppressed on the leads? mine do. in tiny writing. If so then you'd want non- suppressed plugs, which IIRC are the BP6ES (think the R in BP6ERS stands for resistive)

yeah it seems they are suppressed.

they are stainless wire wrapped around a ferrite core, the idea being that they offer low resistance but with good interference reduction.

i dunno how conventional HT leads are suppressed though tbh so cant make a comparision!!

will opt for BP6ES next time, seems to be happy on these but why have cotton when you can have unsuppressed silk

I found all the cheaper ones even lucas were ****e, the only ones that were ok were genuine LR but having to change them every 2 years at 40 to 80 quid a set put me off after the first 2 years so I went out and spent £100 on some magnecores- guarenteed for 10 years and they are great. 10 years worry free and it works out cheaper too- just make sure you take em off when you sell/scrap the car.

Resistor (suppressed) plugs & leads both reduce or totally eliminate radio frequency interference RFI with not only the radio but with the electronic engine management and othe similar onboard stuff..

So you need both, and then plugs and leads should be sutable for the engine, just because they fit is no good..
