First off, sorry for the bajillion photos. But, as you can tell, for the age it's in pretty good shape! The paint is original and the seats are quite immaculate!

Now, for some questions. In the guage photo, there's a little light below the battery symbol. When the battery is hooked up, it's always on. And, I'm not sure if it's the reason why the vehicle is having serious difficulty starting without a jump. The battery is brand new, and there shouldn't be any other reason for it to die while stationary.

Also, there's quite a bit of black exhaust smoke in between switching gears. Could this be the fuel injectors?

Thanks in advance!

If the ignition warning light is on with the ignition switch off it implies that there's a leak through the alternator diode pack or regulator which would account for the battery going flat. If the light stays on with the alternator disconnected you have a wiring fault somewhere but I bet it's the alternator.Try a replacement alternator, easier than rewiring a faulty one.

Ahh, I figured this much. Thanks for the info! I'll order an alternator from Rovers North this weekend.

Sorry, can't help with the smoking, never had a diesel. My petrol smokes just like one though!

A look at the alternator and it's not bolted on entirely... Held on by one bolt. Also, the pulley is incorrect.

So, of course the alternator is not charging the battery, because it's moving along with the belt. :frusty:
