How to use low range gearbox?

Hello. Very new to this. Read the bit in the manual but not very informative.

Disco 2 1999 manual.

To put it in low range I have the engine running and main box in neutral? Do you then use the gears as normal but drive under 5MPH?

Do I start in 1st Gear or are you better off starting in a higher gear depending on terrain? I read third was like first in high range?

its just a lower range use, gears as normal any speed you want or are able to do ,start in whichever gear engine will cope with regarding surface your driving up/over

2nd gear low is good for wading. 1st low is good for rock crawling

Reverse in low range is good for reversing with a trailer.

Now I know why i've never used low range...... none of the above has ever applied to me :lol:

tis good for teaching kids to drive round fields

Never go alone

I only use low range when reversing our horse trailer but make a point of using it now and again to keep the linkage free.

Have two 16.2 horses to tow on Sunday (= 2.5 tons hanging off the back) and its good to know that low range is there in reserve if I come up against a particularly steep hill start!!!
