how to stop ac working on defrost

Hi all does anyone know how to stop the aircon working when heater is set to defrost.I don't want to stop it working normally just on defrost and when its set to screen and floor .Freelander 2004 auto..Thanks in advance DT

Why would you want to,it helps demist the car.
I leave aircon on all the time in the wet weather we have been having.

My AC has recently packed up. It's frustrating having to wait ages for the screen to clear with the heater.

my thoughts exactly... besides isn't there a on/off switch for the AC?

there is a on off switch but apparently the air con comes on automatic when you have the air going up to the screen

there's a micro switch attached to the back of the vent selector dial
disable it
you can still turn on/off the ac via the ac dash switch

as above posts .. the ac in conjunction with the heater will demist the windows quicker ..

vehicles with ac : .. when the windscreen heater vent is selected .. and the fan is turned on .. the ac will be switched on as well but the ac dash switch will not illuminate ( unless that switch is set to 'on' as well .. then it will illuminate )
i think the ac switching 'on' with the screen defrost vent setting is also dependent on outside ambient temps.

will have a separate ac on/off dash switch if it does ..

well it should if the system is ac-gas-charged properly
i.e. if ac gas pressure is outside certain limits .. the ac compressor clutch won't engage
so as to prevent damage to the compressor ..

( and i think the outside temps. have to be above 5c .. .. but don't quote me on that

just the front windscreen vent .. and the f.w.v. + footwell settings ..

sidenote: i had use of a new freelander2 for a couple of days ..
if there's anything i'd want from that .. it be the climate control unit
( oh .. and the 6 speed gearbox )

why do people always think they know better then the manufacturer that spends lots of cash to design motors?
a/c comes on with defrost windows for a reason!!

Yes but its not necessary I dont want to use the aircon and the extra fuel if I dont have to ,the car has electric heated screen so I don't need the aircon and the sceen heater I can always switch on the aircon if I need it

Just don't use either of the screen vent settings then. The air con won't come on.
