How to connect panel light dimmer - 1989 Perentie 110

It seems the previous owner of my Perentie has disconnected the Panel light dimmer. It has two spade connectors on the back of it but I cannot find the wires that connect to it. If anyone knows how to connect it that would be great.
 
I've never had one but I imagine the panel light dimmer is a resistor/varistor that lies in-circuit/series with the feed to the lights. Find the wire thqt powers all the lights on the instruments attach it to one side and run a wire from the other back to the panel .. ?
