DOH.... i have started again..... did not know i had to take the washer looking thing of the top of the piston.. just cant get it of, yup used sharp knife to cut away debris,,, to no avail..... does it screw off?

It is just prised off.
Work gradually around the groove gently prising upwards with a broad screwdriver. Make sure you do not damage it.
After you fit the new seal, just press it back on, making sure it is fitted squarely.

I used an adjustable copper pipe cutting wheel to do mine. Just tighten it a bit more with each turn and the blade wheel should cut away the old teflon seal and slowly prise the top off the piston.

The mistake I made, which it seems you haven't, was taking the motor to pieces so I could get the piston off the drive shaft. Easy to disassemble, a complete bl**dy nightmare to get back together again.

All Done, i bought another seal from island 4x4..... DOH..I had to use a screwdriver and a mallet, stuck very hard.. cleaned it all up, got rid of any sharp edge after my assault, used silicon lube on the seal, piston and bore.. all done fitted quieter,... we shall see, thanks for your advice... It did help..! Paul

The piston is supposed to run dry,be interesting to see how long it lasts - or how long it will be before the silicone will get into the valve block....
