And while I'm at it, how long are your pieces of string? Actually I ask (and I know, it must have been asked a million times before!) because I'm looking to buy a 95 Disco with 255000 km on the clock (a few days ago I was looking at a '98 with 250000km on the clock) which I think is around 158000 miles so is that anything to worry about? It starts, runs, doesnt smoke or make too many weird noises..so how many miles has your Disco done?

I can tell U that if we speak just about the engine everything depends on how it was kept in repair/used......I have a friend with a 300tdi with 650.000 km on it(without intrusions)..... and it's still drivind the s**t out of it = good oil/fuel, fuel/air filters (changed in time).....injectors cleaned once........maybe he was just lucky i dunno:cool:

The main thing to consider is the maintenance. Any vehicle, no matter how old or new, if mistreated and neglected will have issues. Look for one with a service history, has been treated well and from a responsible owner. Sometimes going a bit beyond your budget will work out cheaper. ;)

Mine's got 255k klm's on the clock and is going absolutely solid, with no issues. The previous owner was fanatical about mechanical maintenance, as am I, so I'd be happy to get 600k klm's out of the rig. I'm sure it'd get more than that, but you have to ask yourself what you'd be happy with and how long you wish to keep it. I'm hanging onto my Disco regardless, so don't mind spending a few $'s on things when the time comes.

Im getting my disco 300 next month when present owner gets his brand new one, with 225,000 MILES on the clock still going strong always serviced and looked after properly, biggest problem high or low milage is RUST.

Hi Rich, as others have said, as with all mechanical things it depends how well they have been looked after re oil and filter changes etc.

159,000mls is nothing special, there are several posters on here with either 200's or 300's with 250,000 and up to 300,000miles, so you should be ok as long as the current owner can prove the vehicle has been looked after.

As above, upto 300,000 miles if well looked after. Then maybe re/con if ya can be botherd,?.. Its the rust on the bodywork/chassis that hurts but thats not the end of em.;).
