I admit it - I'm a total newbie when it comes to Land Rovers but after two winters of serious snow in the Central Belt of Scotland, I've succumbed to a 'small' Freelander... Hardback 52 plate 2.5 V6 ES petrol automatic - I think that's about all the magic heiroglyphs on the spec...

Anyway... noob buys Freelander down south because it's immaculate, gen low mileage and most of the trimmings (air con, heated leather seats etc)... but also including a CD autochanger under the driver's seat. However, the dashboard has a Land Rover radio cassette deck built-in and no obvious CD 'mode' button. Instruction manuals (also immaculate, in leather folder...) only show different CD controls for the dashboard and nowt about a radio cassette controlling a CD autochanger.

Question: Is there some way of controlling the CD autochanger from the radio cassette deck, or has someone changed the dashboard setup at some point and left the autochanger behind??? Any thoughts?

Thanks for any suggestions :)

Hi,
Is there a mode button on the cassette that is to change from radio to CD then use the 1 to 6 buttons to go through the CD's.

slide the door open on the changer, then push the small green button, see if the magazine comes out, that will tell you if it's got power or not.

post up a piccy of the head unit if you've still got probs

if it's the c42 unit, peter above is right, pushing the mode button cycles through radio - cassette - cd if fitted.

if the multi changer isn't fitted or can't be seen by the head unit, it will just cycle radio - cassette - radio when you push the mode button

Many thanks, Peter 369 and Optimus - it appears I do have a working CD auto-changer...

Mode button - big black job in the middle of the console with the word 'MODE' written on it. I have one of those but nowt happened when I poked it before. However... once I actually LOAD the freaking autochanger and it can see something to play, it then has a CD mode...

Son and heir joined me to help out and grabbed a fist of his CDs - Daft Punk and the Prodigy should have removed any dust or cobwebs... Reload it at some point with something more tasteful... maybe...

Thanks again - it's so easy when you know how... And the way I got the car was a bit of a rush deal so I might have missed something like the wrong console for the car... especially as the dealer hadn't twigged it had an autochanger until I found it when fiddling for the seat adjustment... :D
