Hi All

How do you remove the centre console switch panel in a late Td5 Defender?

I can get the Stereo out but for the life of me cannot see any fixings to get the whole panel out.

I want to get in there to wire up my heated mirrors having fed the cables through the dash from eitherside so far.

I should know this as I had mine apart back in the summer. Look for some screws on the underside edge. I can't remember whether there are any along the top concealed by the top shelf panel of the dash - I think there might be, but I can't check just now because I'm at work. So you might have to take the top panel off. I'll check later and if no one else has answered I'll let you know.

In the meantime there's some useful TD5 centre panel stuff to look at here:

Thanks chaps, I too will have a look when I get home, pitch black outside the office here in't countryside.

Ouch remove the whole dash top !! Why couldn't they just put some fixings under the ash tray which is EASY to remove!

Definately a weekend fettling job that one.

It's not that bad once you get used to it. Start by taking the grab handle off the passenger side end, and as one thing comes off it helps expose the fixings for the next thing. Keep all the screws in order because they're all slightly different sizes for particular positions. I was dreading doing the electrical repairs on my dash area but once I started it was easier than I thought it would be.

I actually got half way when feeding the wires through, I took both ends off (handle and heater) and popped the main dash out to feed the wires through to the centre console. I found I had to undo half the n/s dash top to get the handle back on :D

So far this is as far as I have got, but will try post some extra piccies when I get in there
