Hi guys,

I'm bloody sick of my alarm going off, I can only imagine how my neighbours feel. I know that the tailgate position sensor is to blame but I have no idea how to fix it and I'm skint anyway.

So if someone can tell how to disarm the damned thing until I can work out a fix I'd be very grateful.

Will.

Try locking it with the key rather than the fob

if I lock via the drivers door it still happens. I suppose I could try locking the tailgate? Trouble is every time I go over a small bump the open door warning light comes on - sometimes even when it's just parked up. I'm pretty sure this is what's making it think it's being broken into.

I've tried looking for a replacement sensor or switch but I've not had any luck and no one here seem to have any answers :(.

the key only disables the internal sensor not the tailgate sensor.

you could see if you can pull a fuse to isolate the tailgate!

If you lock it with the key then it will still go off if it thinks the doors have suddenly fallen, shorry opened. Locking with the key still activates the door sensing. Due to your fault being an intermittent tailgate position sensor, when the alarm is on, and the tailgate is thought to change from closed to open state, the alarm will go off. If the state changes to closed the alarm will be reset, and go off next time the state is thought to have changed to open again.

To avoid this you need to disconnect the wire which carries the signal from the tailgate which tells the Freelander the tailgate is fallen, shorry open/closed. Or cut the power to the tailgate via a fuse. But this would stop you from opening it.

Yeh ideally I would like a functioning tailgate. What is causing it then? Is it some kind of switch that needs to be replaced?

Normally the door closed sensor is part of the lock. I guess it's the same with the tailgate.

The cause it the switch reporting it's sensing the tailgate is open when it's not.

Fixx

Also make sure the cables that go into the tailgate by the hinges are free from damage. And check the tailgate eacth pont is secure = C0551

I had a fault with the tailgate causing the door open light to be on all the time but it never activated the alarm. Fault rectified itself a couple of week ago for no reason.

As an afterthought I do remember the alarm going off a couple of times one night around the same time it started, about 9 months ago but never happened again. Perhaps the micro-switch is switching during the night activating it. The part you show is where I assumed the switch is located, could be worth removing and giving a good soak in WD40 and a bit of a smack.

1. Remove siren
2. Place on floor
3. Source large hammer
4. Beat the **** out of it
5. Place in bin

Universal annoying alarm fix:D

I'd have to go without a horn then. How would I let stupid c*nts at junctions know that they should eat **** and die?
