Alright guys?

I know im gunna get **** for posting this thread, but ive dont a few searches and there is so much cod****e that im struggling to get the answers I need.

I currently have 235/85/16 BFG MT's. Ive got a 2" lift with extended bumbers (or whatever they are called!)

Ive been looking at the Simex Extreme Trakker tyres. What I what to know is how big in diameter and width can I go before I have to start cutting the arches and so on?

Go on... Im ready for the onslaught!!

It depends on what terrain you are going to hack through. 235/85 or 33.5" narrows are better for really heavy mud and the like. 265's are better for rocky bits, but will reduce your turning circle with the extra width (I'm assuming you've already fully wound in your steering stops so they currently rub). Any wider than 265's and you really need wheel spacers and extended arches. Wheel spacers cause their own problems and are banned from any event running under an MSA license.

I've got a set of pro comp 35x1250x15's on my 90 with a 2" lift but i had to fit some 30 mm wheel spacers so i could keep my turning circle less than that of the Q.E.2. Then you've got the problem of having to have your speedo adjusted because of the increase of tyre size!!!

only buy the smex if your doing comps. they have some seriously soft rubber compound, you be lucky to get 6k out of em. Ive been advised not to go over 33" on stock LR parts due to stress. 35's will eventually require a gear ratio reduction, hardened half shafts, drive flanges, diffs and props. so unless you want to start uprating everything, i suggest sticking to 33's and 2" lift.

nah its good. i previously had 265/75 R16 bronco grizzly claws on disco steel rims, and they rubbed the radius arms on full lock.

i now have these 285/75R16 BFG Mud Terrain T/A KM Tyre Only tyres on these 16x8 Black Modular rims, and it doesnt rub at all! must be down to the design of the rim.

but yeh, a big thumbs up from me.

I think your right! I rekon it does make a difference what rims you put them on!

My mate has 235/85/16 Insa turbos on old narrow landy rims

Ive got 235/85/16 BFG MT on 8" wide rims.

His rub like fook and mine are no where near touching anything on full lock!

How do you compare the Grizzlys to the BFG?? Do you prefer the BFG?

definately, the grizzlys were a load of old ****, granted they were good off road, but they were soooo loud on road, and made of such soft **** rubber they barely lasted me 10k, and eventually the tread came off two of the tyres in nice chunks!

i literally only just got the bfgs fitted yesterday, but on road they are so much smoother, quieter and more comfortable! off road, dont know yet but theyre sposed to be pretty good.

like I said ive got the BFG MT but only 235 wide.

They are very good on and off road. However my mate has the same size tyres but the Insa Turbo copy of the Simex tyre and every now and then he is getting through/up stuff that my BFG MT are struggling with. This is what made me think about getting the propper simex tyres and going a bit wider to give me more surface traction.

those tyres may be the same size but their rubbing due to the offset of the lugs. the insa's and the grizzly's both have larger lugs than the BF MT's.

I had Grizzly's and they fell apart, they also wondered all over the place. The BF tyres are not as aggressive so may not get up and over stuff the simex, insa and more extreme MT's can, but...

what you gain in road handling, mileage achievable, road noise etc has to be worth it for a few steep banks at your pay and play. you would be hard pushed to find a greenlane knarly enough to stop BF MT's.

I know what your saying about the lugs, but.. There is more difference than just the lugs. My mates really do rub on full lock where as mine are inches away!! I think it is partly down to the lugs but also the design of the rim.

Because the old rims are narrower I rekon that they push the tyre out more, increasing the overall diameter. Also the centre of the rim is more outset on my mates old rims than on my newer wider rims which makes his tyres site more under the vehical.

If any of that makes any sense!!
