Hot fuel filter? Should i be worried?

Hi all just moved up to a 2000 series 2 td5 disco (my trusty old 200 eventualy died, God bless its lil diesel heart) whilst picking mud out of osr wheel arch around fuel filter my hand brushed against it and was bl++dy hot, is this normal or should i worry?

Mine feels hot too, never worried about it after reading this snipit.

That's why there is a fuel cooler on the engine, it uses engine coolant to cool, so that's how hot it gets.

The common rail engine of the TD5 type has a high flow of low pressure fuel in the gallery, the same as a Cummins PT system. The fuel tanks get hot as well.

Normal common rail and standard injection systems only send enough fuel to the injectors as is needed, the rest returns from the injection or high pressure pump.

I can understand your impatience with new forum members who don't look to see if their problem is common. However, this issue of a hot fuel filter was news to me as a relatively new Disco 2 owner, and is not a common issue such as faulty door locks or oil ni injector looms.

I did take your advice and do a search, and even then, the information was not easy to find - there was one post and hot fuel filter did not appear in the heading!

Maybe I have misunderstood your intentions, but you seem to have posted similar "do a search" posts recently. In this case, it came across to me as terse and unhelpful, and I'm sure you are not that!

cover your fuel filter in a poly bag and wrap with a couple of elastic bands, that way its always clean and dry when you need to change it.
some design guru at land rover came up with a stupid idea of fitting it inside the wheel arch!

I'm not the Oracle but after reading most threads even diesel ones I have eventually come to understand the various problems associated with owning a disco and sometimes even understand how they are resolved.

As the OP appeared to me concerned about his issue my reply was brief and to the point ie. "nothing to worry about".

As for more information well as stated i'm not the Oracle and for me to state one reason why this issue happens would require me to search the Land Rover Forum/s, to cut & past or provide the link, it's not difficult just to enter the question into Google or what ever search engine one fancies and receive a lot more information than just one link, hence the word "Search".

Finally I have no impatience with new forum members.

Hi Graham.

The fact that it was " news to you " means that it was not something you consider a problem.
Had you have been clearing out your rear wheel arch and noticed, with concearn, that the filter was " hot ", then, perhaps you would have consulted Landyzone members/Landyzone search facility.

I think what Discool was driving at is that often the answers that many people seek can be found after a bit of " searching ".

I have not found the need to ask too many questions about faults and problems on my Disco as nearly all of them have been covered at some point on here.
