High pressure fuel pump.

Afternoon all,
The vehicle is a freelander 1 2002 td4. Has the BMW engine.
Would the technicians/mechanics or people who know this engine have preference to what pump they would fit if they had the choice. And where would 1 get 1.

So, bit of background on this one.

Saw the vehicle (350,000 miles) yes, amazing !!
It hesitates and splutters just occasionly and while the lp fuel.pressure stays steady at 340 360 kpa, the high pressure dips or falters. When the fault clears it returns to normal pressures 30-70 kpa on idle and being revved up.

So my gut was bad hp rail sensor or contacts. Mark has cleaned contacts, anything else to test for as pump usually fails or works in my experience.

Could be the hp sensor?? Worth eliminating before the expense of a pump I would say. No fault codes for sensor were showing.
 
Hi, pwood999. Where would I get the loom replacement, andyfreelander mentioned it. I have tried looking for it but no joy.
 
There was yes. Not fitted one but will have a search.
Has anyone actually had an intermittant hp pump ?? I'm thinking not.

I bought one from Island 4x4, also bought a new sensor from them and a repair kit for the pressure regulator from ebay, as it was becoming hard to start, installed the pressure reg kit okay but the new sensor leaked , tighten a bit and was okay, but after about 5 min tried to start it and did not want to go, it did start then would not tick over, then ticked over, nearly stalled then and rpm would jump up and down, reinstalled old sensor and was okay, so would not buy a sensor from them.
I have not fitted the cable replacement yet, still will not start first time, but better than it was, will start run for 2 to 3 seconds then die, next try it cranks for a bit longer than normal but then starts and runs okay, I need to check fuel pressure to see what is going on but think still needs a new sensor or lead changing, want to have a look at fuel pressure before I change lead so I know if anything has changed
 
Morning, I think I'm going around the twist. I drove into work this morning in my motor. It didn't miss a beat..... what have noticed is you try and start it without waiting for the SRS light to go out it will fire run for a second or to at about 500 rpm then die. If you try it a minute or so later same results, but if you remove the key lock it on the fob wait about a minute then start it after the SRS goes out it'll fire straight away. So is the pump or is it pressure sensor or the loom..
It's my daily runner.
I live in Somerset, I live one side of the Mendips and work the other side, in weston-super-mare it takes anything from 45 minutes to an hour so it is getting a good run. Any thoughts 😕
 
If you have had a good result then the theory about pressure sensor, connectors or loom sound right.
I would clean the contacts in the plug again, then test or change the hp loom wiring.
 
This all seems very familiar
I change the harness and sender and never did it again

symptoms on mine it was needing two gos to start when cold
very lumpy and would not rev for 2,3,4seconds after starting from cold

Good morning Andy. I hope all is well. I think, (I don't want to upset the Freelander God's) but your fix seems to have worked. When I first cleaned the contacts there was no change in the way the vehicle was performing. I parked up and left it overnight, and it's been fine ever since 🙃 crossing fingers, touching wood. I even started it straight away without waiting. So thank you, you just saved me nearly 800 pound. Are we still on for the 1st of October? Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
