LED wont touch tungsten for a spot light though ;)

LED for a wash effect but no penetration(ooh err!) :D

Think MikeyT would have to disagree with that comment..

His HiD headlights:

And his single LED spotlight:

HiD's are good but they are already as far developed as they can (realistically), CREE LED lights are still coming on and will only get better, at the moment the majority of LED lights are weak but there are some now days with the right lenses that are giving HiD's a run!

On the same voltage ;)

His Cree LED's are not 12v. There more like 2 or 3 times the volts.

No way is a 12v LED going to put out as many lumens as a 12 tungsten bulb. :D

LED has its place but at the moment it still dosent have the throw. Wont be long though.

Will make my job a whole lot easier when it does.

Voltage can easily be stepped up, LEDs like that are normally run from a constant current source so the voltage is dependant on the load which is opposite to a regular constant voltage source where the current is dependant on the load.

well if its powered by a 12v circuit it cant be drawing more than 12 volts ? however it can draw more current than the standard bulb

In my tiredness i didnt write that clearly. But your picking holes. you know what i ment ;)

why do we not use LED headlights? because there more expensive to manufacture? nope. Its because they dont output enough light.

That is very true, they are running at 36V, I agree as well, LED's at the moment aren't there but they are the future, just look at how far they have come from those ****ty little cheap things 10 years ago. With LED's its more about the lenses at the moment, soon the power will be there tho and I cant wait, replacing the filament bulb will save so much hassle!

Agreed.

To be honest im looking forward to LED lights being more predominant in the entertainment industry. Means me climbing wire ladders to replace broken bulbs a little less often hopefully.

LED will never totally replace tungsten in my job as its all about the look and LED isnt warm, its very cold.
