Hi folks, I am now the proud owner of a 2001 Discovery II. My first Land Rover.

I have been casually looking for an ES spec discovery II for awhile, I test drove a few over the last couple of months but in two cases I was not decisive enough and the cars sold before I had a chance to think about it then buy. Well yesterday I took a drive over to Newbury to visit a dealership. They had a very well presented Black ES TD5 so after a quick spin and check over I decided to bite the bullet. The price seems good to me at £3,995, considering the condition it appears to be in, full service history and 130K miles.

Couple of niggly issues:

1. Driver's side door lock - exterior handle will not open the door unless operating the key inside the lock at the same time. I gather from reading the forum it needs a new door latch so have just ordered one from fleaBay.

2. Drivers side door card - half the poppers are broken so card is loose. Ordered some replacement poppers.

3. The Instrument cowel is loose and freely moves around. Should be an easy fix with some better screws?

Also since yesterday a strange phenomenon has occurred, I have found myself drooling over various after market addons, and have already managed to spend a few pounds ordering a decent and practical side runner board (steps).

I have not touched car tinkering for 20 years, however am almost relishing the prospect. As a teenager with several early 1970's mini's I was forever tinkering with them, replacing head gaskets, stripping engines and so forth. So the challenge of looking after the disco is quite appealing.

I bought the disco as basically a bit of a boys toy. It does have practical purpose however in transporting my 2 large hairy dogs. I am also lucky to live in a rural area with lots of green lanes within a stones throw. In fact today I couldn't resist tackling a mile or so of fairly easy green lane, whilst I am a complete noob to offroad driving the discovery seemed to know what to do and ate up the extremely muddy and pitted track. Much to my wife's delight!

My plan over the next couple of weeks is to carry out a full service myself, it had a service stamped as "Full Service" in the logbook at 122,000 about 4 months ago, however I would rather do it myself to get to know the car a bit.

Anyway, thought I would introduce myself, and thanks to the site creator for setting up this fantastic resource!
