Hesitating Freelander 1.8

Hi All.

I just thought I'd share my experience with my 04 reg 1.8 K series Freelander. I was experiencing intermittent hesitation under acceleration mostly in third and fourth gear at around the 2000 - 3000 rpm range so I googled it and landed here on this forum. Reading one of the posts I noticed that my spark plug gaps may not be set properly. I took them out and adjusted them to 0.6. I then took the springs out of the rubber coil packs and stretched them slightly so that they were putting more pressure / force onto the top of the spark plugs. When I replaced them I actually pushed the spring over the top of the electrode at the coil end. I replaced everything making sure I'd got all my spanners / feeler gauges from under the bonnet. ( I'm good at leaving tools under there. ). And then took it for a run. Well, to say it runs like a dream is an understatement. Why I haven't done this before I don't know. I've put up it with it hesitating for about three months. At one point I was dreading the head gasket. Now it drives like a much newer car. Extremely smooth. It has 133,000 miles on it and I can only imagine it must have been a lovely car when it was new. I just have to replace the NSF wheel bearing now and it will be a beautiful car to drive. I know these aren't everyone's cup of tea but I do like mine.

Mick.
