Hi guys...

You all know by now that Kai is working on his series 3

He has reached apoint where he needs to either patch or replace one of the outriggers.

We could patch it.... but more experienced members that I have said that we shoudl reaplce it given thatthey are not expensive.

That's fine... but neither of us are decent enough welders to connect newoutrigger to series 3 chassis!

Is there anyone out there that would be willing to help please?

Matt.. it is not desperate at all.... Kai is 12 years old and restoring a series 3. He is almost at the point where he lifts the las of the component from the chassis and wants to drop the new (well replacement )chassis into place to start rebuilding.

We can both weld... but we are both very , very amateur. To the extent that we would weld a patch perhaps but not a structurally relevant component.

We would love some help in this regard. We know that the removaland replacement of the outrigger has to be exact.. otherwise the locating of the body may be compromised.

At the same time (and I realise that this is asking a lot) Kai is learning. While I really do want the outrigger replaced... i ALSO want Kai to undertand the steps involved; and the techniques. I need him to learn from every single thing he is doing with his vehicle...

Every time he watches someone; or listens to experts; hears tales from the workshop when we are at the pub... he absorbs the information. He is now almost ready to start teaching me!

Well I won't mind coming to help, but like I say, will be a few weeks. So if you don't get a more immediate offer, I'll help (if you want) and show a few things too. (again if you want)

your 12 year old can weld... thats pretty impressive! :D
Thanks Matt - will stay in touch!

Disco...

He can weld... but like me he is learning. Two plates of 2 mm he can do well. Welding a new outrigger onto a chassis is beyond our ability given the precision that is needed.

Besides.... if you have a 12 year old with a passion.... he will absorb every bit of information passed to him. I taght him all that I could... spitfiremk1 taught him in a day how to start to make the best out of a cheap mig welder that I bought him.... Jai_Landrover teaches him about his series 3 - Herts Laners teach him how to drive off road.

I am just lucky that his passion is similar to mine... and unlucky that he learns faster than I do!

He has a part time (unofficial) job in his uncle's workshop and works on engines and stuff with him from time to time...

OK I could go on ranting about how brilliant my kid is but everyone would get bored!:D
