Help with injection pump

Hi
Just put a 200Tdi into Ted. Stripped it down and rebuilt, got it in - tried to start it and it ran for about 3 seconds and wont start again. Fuel is getting to the injection pump, but I cant get fuel to the injectors. Have replaced the fuel solenoid but still no good. Is there anything I can do to test it - is there a bleed screw or something. I tried the lift pump with the ignition on but still nothing to the injectors?

are you geting power to the solinoid ? crack the fuel pipe on the in side of pump and prime her up to there then turn on ignition and do the same to the injectors should get it running if you have power if not run a wire from battery to get it going

Thanks for that - there is power to the solenoid - it clicks when I touch the wire to the terminal. I have loosened the feed pipe and fuel is getting to the pump, but I cant get fuel to the outlets at the rear -
Thanks for the manual - I have it but it only deals with removing and refitting not servicing or adjustment.

Was the engine running before the transplant? (And did you actually witness it?!)

Fair point - it was a gamble - engine was in really good nick only needed a hone and new bearings - never saw it running. It did start for about a second then stopped. Gut feeling is a blockage as the engine was sitting around for a year before I rebuilt it and god knows how long before that.
Prices of new pumps are crazy - so will try and rebuild perhaps - it was made by man so can be rebuilt - whether it can be rebuilt by an idiot remains to be seen.

From your post it sounds like you were manualy pumping the lift pump hoping to pump fuel to the injectors? Fuel will not actually pass through the injector pump unless you are cranking the engine as the injector pump needs to be turning to deliver fuel to each port.

Yup - what happens if you undo the bleed screw on the fuel filter and turn the engine over? If the lift pump is working good it should chuck diesel all over the bonnet (be ready to tighten it up again / turn the engine off if it fires!)

Sorry been away for a few days - I can get diesel to the fuel filter, if I slacken the bleed screw, I can also get fuel to the inlet on the injection pump - and to the drain on the back of the pump. When the engine is cranked no fuel gets to the injectors - so must be returning directly via the return. I checked the spring valves on the exit to the injector pipes and they seem fine - with these off I can get fuel pumping to the outlets with the solenoid activated via the ignition. It is almost as if the pump wont generate enough pressure to pass the check valves on the 4 outputs.
