help required with blown up 110. PLEASE

Hi all,

I'm new here but it seems like all the experts I could really do with right now are in one place.. :)

I have an E reg 110 csw which when taken by some friends over to Europe this summer "blew up"/died. I wasn't there to witness but my lovely mechanic ( yes, sorry, I love my landrover but am not going to be the person who rebuilds it) that it's pretty well shot and the crank is also done for.

Therefore what to do ? I stay way up north ( orkney) and so there are NOT many spares around and breaking would give me under £200 which seems criminal. I would like to put a new engine in it but now have drawn a blank at what and where to find.

There seems a possibility to rebuild mine but is it really worth it? and could well be price prohibitive. ( I've been quoted around £1500)
I have thought about an Isuzu but again what is best ? (any suggestions please and what are the pitfalls?)
If I put in a 200TDI which I have been offered how easy is the conversion really ?

I know questions, questions but I would REALLY appreciate any help .. thanks.

Hi . I presently have a 2.5TD in ( just recond the turbo.. arghh typical)

I had a root through past threads today and had a chat to someone who seemed to have solved a similar problem for another member.

I now think that 200tdi defender engine appears to be the easiest fix ( although may require a second mortgage to get one) so I am after that unless you have a cunning plan?:)

Hi Miriam,

The engine change irrespective of engine is a rather simple process.

You could get hold of a whole 2.8td Isuzi Trooper and transplant the engine into your landy. You would be looking at about £300 for the Isuzi, and £200 for a conversion kit.

Just remove your old knackered engine, and reweld mounts (in the conversion kit) to the Chassis. Then drop the engine in with the conversion plate (Again within the conversion kit).

Then all you are left with is the fidley bit of routing the fuel intakes, etc...

And away you go.

I am planning this conversion myself, and have costed it up to be about £500 - £750 (DIY).

I have no idea how much a mech would charge. Good luck either way you go.

Rich,

Thanks for the advice..

I did have a brief look at Isuzu but have not been able to source an engine that didn't sound like it was coming from a cowboy ( yee hah)

It certainly sounds a WAY cheaper option thoug,h as presently i'm being quoted anywhere from £900 to £1500 for a defender 200TDi engine.

Can you point me in the right direction for isuzu engines ( if you have a cunning source) and I may well give that a whirl . :) thanks
