Hi everyone,
I bought a Freelander last september (secondhand) and it has been a dream - I love it!!!
The only problem I have had is I put it into Hill Decent Control once and now the TC, ABS and HDC warning lights have come on on the dashboard and wont go off!!!!

If anyone has any idea as to what the problem might be and how much it will cost to fix it please let me know.

Much appreciated.

I know this is a much posted topic but having read a lot of posts I am not understanding much of the advice given.........could I have it in an easier format please (I am a girl you know......

Thanks DiscPol, I have read through the advice given under this search and I dont really understand what they are saying.........

if you have the abs etc lights on and you have no other symptoms like noisy wheel bearing etdc you need to get somone to do diagnostic check before anything else ,maye your near someone on here who could do it or you will have to find a garage that can

Gents you should be ashamed, ashamed not only by your choice of transport, but your neglect of a fellow freelander who asks for help.

Hello Kylie.

As you said the problem is well covered and can be caused by a number of faults ,some simple some not so ........
There is a mountain of reading for you if you search the 3 amigos but if you persevere you will grasp what is being advised.
Investigating the root cause requires some work by yourself using some tools and at least an electrical multimeter and with the vehicle jacked up and on axle stands .
Now you may be as capable as your namesake and if so I apologise so let us know and we'll draft up a list of simple checks you can do to determine if the fault lies on the simple side of repair ....
I'd advise you to initially take the car to a competent mechanic/ garage who is equipped with a code reader who can interrogate the cars ECU's and determine if there is a logged failure that will cause the fault to appear. Get a price from them first for scanning the car as prices for this service can vary greatly.
I sympathise with you as I have been experiencing the problem for some weeks now and am still chasing the cause .
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

one of the common causes, although not the only one, is the brake pedal switch. This is reasonably cheap (around £10 at the mo I believe) and is an absolute peach of a job to change, it is at the top of the brake pedal in the cabin (not in the engine bay)

This may not be the cause of your problem, but at £10 and taking about 10 mins to do, it has to be worth a try.

Thanks to everyone for all your advice - to answer some of your questions/statements, I am in Chatteris (near Peterborough) there is a slight high pitched 'singing' coming from the gearbox as I excelerate before changing gears. I will definately be speaking to my mechanic about it, he is pretty good with costs and payment so I should be fine.
Just pleased to know it is a common problem and that it had nothing to do with me........... :cheer2:

Vinnie, I would love to be an honorary Disco - dont get me wrong, I love my Freelander but as my previous car was a 2 door Ford Fiesta and I am 6ft 2" I just wanted a car I was comfortable driving :car:
