help please, towbar hitting the ground and knocking somewhere??

you guys have always been so helpful with all my landy problems i thought id ask for help again , my td5 has been knocking from somewhere for the past 3 yrs and no one can find the problem sounds like its coming from front left side worse when i turn right or go over bumps any ideas? and also when i drive over a speed bump my towbar hits the floor, im driving slowly in first gear its worse with the trailer on or when there is weight in the boot, could this be springs or shocks? when the trailer is hitched on its lifting the front of my disco up and depending on weight in the trailer its affecting my brakes and steering, took it to landy garage who said drive it on until mot due (mid sept) but towing my pony around in the trailer it doesnt feel safe, does anyone have any ideas what it could be? many thanks in advance

It's either your rear air springs or coil springs!

Front left side noises and grounding out at the back. Sounds like you have two problems. I suppose anyone could guess a number of things but without looking at it, it's going to be hard to diagnose.

Does it have air or coil springs? Do you have one of those adjustable towbars? They give less ground clearance but should be more than enough for a speed bump. Have you looked under the towbar to see if it is actually grounding out?

great thanks will check out the springs, they are springs not the air bags, i do have the adjustable towbar but it didnt used to hit the speed hump, i was looking at the front last night and noticed the bar that the ace is on is wobbly and when i rattled it around it made the same knocking noise, is this a problem i should get looked at or do they all do that? it wobbles from either side not a huge amount but enough to knock on the metal its bolted too (sorry for my lack of mechanical terms) was towing empty horse trailer last night and even that is making the front of my disco lift up a bit, many thanks

So, you are on the right way. This is problem one, the noise.

Now go and find out why your towbar is hitting the ground!

Saggy Springs would be my first opinion

It sounds like you have a real problem with your springs - I would get them changed for Heavy Duty ones immediately.

I would get a pair of these and fit them:

They will improve the whole feel of the car, especially when towing.

great thanks for replys and the link, i have a 5 seater though so will find heavy duty ones and get them fitted asap next week, would u be worried about the ace bars knocking or do they all do it? i like to go to the garage telling them the problems then they dont charge so much, if i go in and say i dont know whats wrong they normall add at least £100, have found a new garage to try a friend reccomended them she takes her freelander there, dont suppose any of you guys know about nh d1010 balers do you? we are desperate for a reasonable baler mechanic whos good at timing up? dont want to pay agricultural engenieers prices we are in dorset nr dorchester nice cash job for someone will let you know how the disco is after her new springs fingers crossed x
