Help please freelander newbie

hi there chaps, I have recently purchased a 1.8 freelander serengiti and today the top engine mount bolts have snapped, well 1 has and the other has pulled through the threads, i have sourced a brand new replacement now i'm half handy with a socket set as i was mad keen on the v6 vectra b's but i've grown up a little now lol, now my main question is can i jack the engine up with a trolly jack ifso where is bet to jack it up as to bolt up the top mount??????

your sump is an alloy one you can use a jack but buffer it with a bit of wood [between jack cradle and sump] obviously so as not do damage it, welcome and good luck

I had mine jacked up yesterday to change the timing belt.

i didn't use a block of wood and it was fine, up to you though

+1 every time if you worked in a garage and did that they would sack you. all that it wants is a piece of wood .

Job done... i managed to borrow an engine crane bit of a struggle on my own but managed just the same

never even scratched mine, it's not like it's a massive weight

i guess it just falls down to luck, i use a good 3t trolly jack with a padded saddle but still drop a sturdy block of wood for good measure, its not that the engine weigh's so much but more good practice, as i said before luck never holds out forever and the sump on any motor is never infallible so simple block of wood = never risking having to replace sump

From a structural point of view, there is plenty of strength in the alloy sump to take the tiny weight of the 4 cylinder K series. Even the with the considerable weight of the V6, sump strength is not an issue.
However placing an piece of timber between the sump and a jack will considerably increase the grip between the two. This prevents the engine slipping. Personally I prefer to use a piece of wood.
